Marriage Visa extension

Featured Replies

Need a bit of advice please.

Will be attempting my first "Extension of Stay" and have a couple of queries.

I will be going for the 40,000 per month option as I have a job and work permit.

Does my contract and/or payslips need to be in Thai or is English acceptable ?

My wife and I live in a different location to her House Book - we live in a house that is listed under her father.

Which House Book (and relevant documentation) do I have to submit ?

My non-immigrant B visa does not expire till July but as I will be working out of the country then I would like to do now - any problems with doing the "Extension of Stay" early ?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

BB

To prove you income you need tax payment receipts or your annual income tax form. What other documents you required related to your job will depend upon the office where you apply for the extension.

You will need copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card for the application. You will need a statement from her father stating you are living in his house and copies of his house book and ID card for proof of residence.

You can apply for the extension up to 30 days or 45 days at some offices. After applying you will get a under consideration stamp with a report back 30 days from when you apply or the date you current permit to stay ends.

If you have a multiple entry non-b visa you could apply for the extension during the last 30 day of any of the 90 day entries from it. You do not have to wait for the visa to expire.

UJ,

Thank you very much for the response.

I have just started a new job so have not paid tax yet - will obviously have to wait till I have some tax receipts to apply.

The house is not owned by the father - my wife said she is only allowed to have one house book so we put our second home (where we currently reside) in his name - is that correct (only 1 x House Book) ?

Do we still need his documentation if we have proof of residence ? (power bills, bank statements etc)

I work 4 weeks on (China) with 1 week off (Thailand) - do I have to be here when / if the IM officers come to visit ?

Cheers,

BB

Your wife can own multiple houses and have a house book for each one of the them. She can only be registered as living in one of them.

With your work schedule it is going to difficult If to apply an extension based upon marriage. You will have to be here to get the one year extension stamp at the end of the 30 days. If they do a home visit you will need to be present.

It might be easier to get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Savannakhet Laos. The visa would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

I agree with ubonjoe, easy to do at Savannakhet, requires an overnight stay, no financials and good for 17 months use, with an entry just before expiry of the visa and a 60 day visit wife extension, you will require a re-entry permit on the last entry/extension to fit in with your work pattern,

Thanks guys.

I got my current visa from Savannakhet so familiar with requirements there.

May be easier to just return to the 30 day tourist visa route until I finish this project and then get another Non immigrant B based on marriage when I have an extended break.

Cheers,

BB
