tried a search but came up empty, cannot believe the bull.... one can get on something as simple as entering and exiting thailand, i have a retirement ni-o-a visa with muliple entry, i have been here tw two months and i need to go back to the states for a week and come back, recently in the pattaya people weekly an article ran about those of us who have to leave the country for short period and stated that one needs to fill out a TM8 and turn it in to immigration before traveling, otherwise when you return your visa will be nil and void and you will instead be given a 30 visa, well i went to immigration and i was told to disregard the newspaper article, that i needed nothing and to just go and there won't be any problems when i try to come back.

i wrote the auther of the newspaper article to ask if he had made a mistake he assured me that no mistake was taken and that i do need the TM8 form or i will be in hot water when i get back, i contacted the consulate in oregon where i got my visa, and asked, do i need the form or not, they said from past experience the newspaper article was right, so back to immigration to clarify one more time and i get the same answer, no forms needed.

someone here is full of it, i cannot understand how something this simple can get this twisted, in one week i will be leaving for the states and i need an answer right away, if anyone has the correct answer to this i would be very much appreciated

In my opinion, as you have a multi entry visa, there is no requirement for you to obtain a re-entry permit.

Are you here on a 90 day permitted to stay or a one year permitted to stay stamp?

If on 90 day permitted to stay there is no need for re entry permit (TM.8).

If on one year permitted to stay you need to check the original visa - if it is multi entry and you will return before its expiration date you do not need a re entry permit - you will receive a new one year permitted to stay stamp when you return.

If visa is one year but not multi entry or will have expired you will need a re entry permit to keep your current permitted to stay stamp alive.
