Govt to conduct feasibility study on airport projects in four provinces

BANGKOK, 21 April 2016 (NNT) - Chula Sukmanop, director general of the Department of Airports and director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, said businesspersons and government officials in four provinces, namely Beung Kan, Mukdahan, Pang Nga and Kanchanaburi, have suggested that an airport be built in their respective provinces.

The Department of Airports will conduct a feasibility study on such projects and decide if they will be worth investing and whether any airlines will eventually use the sought-after airports in those provinces.

Besides, the department is yet to consider how many potential passengers there would be to use those demanded airports.

Might be a good idea to get the Japanese involved in this study , will save a lot of talk, the inevitable fast track ,and possibly something might happen, they could also take on the water supply for a decade or 2.................................................coffee1.gif .

Been talk of upgrading the military airfield at Lat Ya, Kanchanaburi, for at least the last 15 years.

Gez get it right ,we have a great facility in Korat

that is hardly serviced

spending and building is fine , no people no planes,

offering even a twice a week service to the capital

may have a benefit,

a true survey could be done but only if the amount charged is roughly given in advance,

no passengers= no money , =

plenty of parking space,

Money to build/convert four new commercial-airports in quiet provinces, but still no work-started on Swampy's third-runway & expansion-terminal, which actually are needed ? wink.png

Why does it sometimes seem, that Thailand is aiming to have every single province getting its own unused airport, rather than basing these decisions on actual commercial demand ? whistling.gif

What could possibly explain this strange twisted priority ... obviously not face or brown-envelopes ! facepalm.gif

Swamp's third runway & Terminal expansion is open for bidding May/June 2016. We need more regional Airport and they have already given the go-ahead for the construction of Betong Airport in the South as Betong is very hard to get to road or via Hat Yai Airport. I have to fly to Penang Malaysia and then drive back across the border to Betong. Should be open in 2018. Also need Surin Airport open to commercial flights. However, because the powers to be do not like the politics of the Surin Governor, we have to fly to Buriram and take the Fly-Ride buses. The problem with Buriram Airport is that is a long way north of the town, whereas Surin Airport is just a few kms south of the town.

The problem with Swampy is that, despite many brave announcements over the past decade, nothing has yet happened on-the-ground.

Which is where it matters, as Thailand already has a surplus, of 'hot air' !

Words are (relatively) cheap ... actions speak louder !

Beung Kan will be waste of money to even make that study.

Sakon Nakhon has an airport for years but most airlines downgraded flights lately.
