Five million baht worth of fake weight loss pills seized in Maha Sarakham



MAHA SARAKHAM: -- Consumer protection police and officials of the Food and Drugs Administration have seized about 160,000 fake weight loss and diet pills worth about five million baht from three houses in Maha Sarakham province, according to Post Today Online.

Pol Maj-Gen Prasert Pattanadee, commander of the Consumers Protection Division, told a press conference on Thursday that the seizure of the fake drugs followed police intensive investigation into the death of a young woman who plunged to her death from the 16th floor of her condominium room in Sukhumvit area late last year.

It was suspected at the time that the victim might have overdosed weight loss pills to the extent that she suffered hallucination and took her own life.

The investigation has led to three houses in Maha Sarakham suspected to store the fake weight loss and diet pills which were sold online. Armed with search warrants from the court, the police and FDA officials raided the three houses in Wapeepathum and Payakpoompisai districts.

One suspect was held in police custody as police are looking for more suspects involved in the illegal business.

If these fake pills originated from China, Prayut needs to press the Chinese government to prevent their export to Thailand.
