I'm looking to go in may for 10 days, and again in july for 60 days. Starting from may, i will not be home the entire time, so getting two SETV is not an option. Is it possible for me to enter Thailand in May with the SETV stamp on hand, but request they ignore the visa and provide me with a visa exemption so that i can use the SETV in july instead?

You could ask the officer to not use your visa when you enter the country but the chances are small they will do it,

You could make your trips with getting a tourist visa. For the 2nd trip you could extend the 30 day visa exempt entry for 30 days at an immigration office. The only problem you could have is that the airline can deny boarding your flight if you done't have a flight out within 30 days from the date of entry. You could get a low cost one way ticket to a nearby country to satisfy that requirement.

I was told by an immigration officer to write "NO VISA" in visa number section of the arrival card if I didn't want to use the visa.

Was quite a few years ago in happier times.
