Happy time at Suvarnabhumi Airport :-)

Featured Replies

Doesn't happen to me all the time, so thought I'd share a happy moment from travel land.....coming back from the Maldives on Saturday, my plane landed and we all departed right at the entrance to Immigraton. Since I had a Premium Pass went right to the front, flew through and just in time to see my bag tumble off the belt, picked it up and found my driver at the exit, flew down the motorway towards Pattaya and within one hour was on my bed at my hotel....woo, woo. The whole process from landing, to Immigraton, to home took less than an hour and a half.....pure bliss. Just a sidebar, my driver told me it took him over 5 hours just to get from Pattaya to the airport during all the Songkran mess...???

Ive entered BKK twice in the last month at around 0600 ,its peak time . both occasions only half Immigration desks open meaning a wait of over 1 hour .

I have the choice to visit any country so will exercise that choice next trip !

So having to wait an hour to get through immigration would be enough to change you mind about where you were going?

Might become a tedious task to find the 24/7 express lane country.

It would not be US (immigration) for me biggrin.png

I was told that the congestion to North Korea is manageable and they take care for you.

No bag and chain snatching cheesy.gif

Sure, the ticket's $2,000 more, but you do get a nicer meal, a marginally more comfortable seat for a few hours, and don't have to wait in line for 2 minutes to an hour with the unwashed masses.

I'll take cattle car and save the $$$. (Unless, of course, the company's paying.)

Can only second that. After XMas 2014 I came back to BKK only to find Thousands of PAX crammed inside and outside of the immigration hall, no queuing whatsoever possible (and 50% of those PAX were mainland Chinese, so you know what that means). It took me 1:40 hrs to get through immigration and I swore that next time when arriving on a 15+ hrs long haul flight, I would make use of a Premium service. This is what I did after XMas 2015 when I returned to Thailand before new years eve. Was met by a friendly young lady at the gate with my name on a board and walked through the Premium lane at immigration, where I had to wait just 2 minutes (though this time the regular immigration hall was not very busy as well - but that was unpredictable).

It turned out that one of my suitcases, despite carrying a "priority" tag, did not make it from my point of transit airport in KUL, so she helped me through the "lost luggage" process as well (my bag eventually was sent to my home the next morning).

This Premium service cost me just 800 Baht if I remember that right, and was worth every Satang. Will continue to use it whenever I am arriving on a long haul flight during peak season.

Why should anyone have to pay extra just to avoid huge delays caused entirely by incompetence on the part of immigration officials?

If they need more staff and more desks they should find them. They are there to facilitate the arrival of bona fide tourists, not to force them to queue for hours, and a long disorganised wait at immigration just proves to the world that Thailand not only cant organise itself but doesnt really care about how it treats tourists anyway.

Luckily I also fly business class and so avoid the queues, but I feel for those who are in them. Even the Chinese.

How else can you avoid the queue and delay (if there is one)?

I didn't say they could avoid the queue.

I've travelled into suvarnabhumi over 20 times in 7 years and never queued more than 15 minutes to get through immigration. Flight from hk to BK on Monday morning was a breeze. 5 minutes I waited but I did arrive at 4am.

What are the current peak times? I guessing from the above, adding some range 5.45am to 7.15am should be avoid? Any others?

I see there are old threads but airlines are constantly changing schedules, like qatar adding a 5th daily, and other changing to bigger things like a380

I might be lucky but the longest I have ever waited in line at BKK has been 30mins on a couple occasions. Every other time less than 30mins. Once at Phuket arriving off a Qatar Airways flight I was first off the plane and through immigration in a couple of minutes.

The premium meet and greet also offers a golf cart pick up service. Handy if you're travelling Thai airways.
