China: quick-thinking cop averts potential tragedy as sinkhole appears in busy road

HANGZHOU: -- The observational skills and quick-wits of a policeman in the Chinese city of Hangzhou have potentially saved dozens of lives. He put cones out immediately after spotting a crack on the ground at a busy crossroads.

A matter of minutes afterwards, CCTV footage covering the road in the eastern Zhejiang Province appears to show the ground caving in to reveal a two-metre-deep sinkhole.

No casualties were reported.

The policeman was wise and efficient, but I wonder how many drivers will pay any attention to those cones.

Too funny & so true.

Protecting people from themselves isn't always as easy as it first seems.

What would happen in Thailand with the same hole?

Maybe a single cone placed in the center of the hole with a piece of flagging.

Then weeks after several crashes a committee will investigate solutions to the danger.

No, no need to waste good cones, just put some tree branches by the hole.

Well, they have to be quick over there, or something like this will happen again...

Not much he could have done about this one though...
