Is This Normal At Immigration?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just got back from Immigration and extended my Non-O multi entry successfully. Interestingly, immigration asked for the ID card (copy) and tabien baan (copy) of the owner of the condo that I rent. Is this a normal request? I never saw anyone mention this before so my wife and I ended up needing to scramble to get it taken care of. I'm not certain if this is some new policy...

Yes it's normal. Not all offices ask for it but it is becoming more common.

Immigration offices are so different in handling certain things that you're sometimes wondering.

It's normal, but only in some provinces.

Please explain in more precise detail how you 'extended " a Non-O multi entry

Do you now have an extension of stay ? If so for how long and based on what ?

No it's not normal to extend a non-imm O at immigration. In fact it never happens. They would only extend your permission to stay. The extension would be based on retirement or marriage or employment, etc.

Yes it's increasingly common for them to want some form of proof where you are staying. The condo owner ought to have reported that you were staying there as well.

Why bring the condo owner reporting into this? It is not ( yet ) the responsibility of the occupier to ensure it is done, and the owner is fined if not done, not the occupier. Bringing that up is only likely to confuse the issue that the OP raises.

Having to provide proof of residence has been a requirement for at least 18 months in Chiang Mai, though I used my yellow book last time. However, it hadn't been required previously, and no mention of it was given on the sheet of documents required when I went. Just took yellow book in case.
