New Passport - Visa Exempt No Need To Transfer?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Need a little help here. Am in BKK for the past 6 months on various visa exempt and single tourist visas. I am currently in on a visa exempt and extended for another month.

Made a new passport and collected today. Headed straight to immigration to have the entry stamp transferred but was told that since it's a visa exempt, I do not need to do so. Is this true? Was told that I can just head to the airport with both passports. Show the officer the old passport with the entry and extension stamp, head and get the exit stamped on the new passport.

Not sure if that's the case. I am leaving at the end of this week and would have to sort it out asap.

Thanks for any expert advice!

It is true. You do not need to transfer the visa exempt entry stamp. Do as advised and take both passports to the airport.

Thanks! Silly me. Guess its time for single tourist visas again.

Just to clarify, other than visa exempt all other types of visas have to be transferred?

They never transfer visas just the permission to stay stamps. They will only transfer long term permits to stay such as extensions of stay based on retirement.
