Marriage visa Ubon or Bkk

Featured Replies

Hello TV people

So here's thing..me & my fiance are all set to get married..She's from ubon..Both of us have been living in Bkk for about a year now because she's got a job here..we rent an apartment together which is primarily in her name..so in your expert opinion which should be the proper & easier route to apply for a marriage visa..I'm asking this because bkk immigration seems crowded every time & as for the immigration near ubon not so much as I've been there for my work visa (non B) a few times in the past but I'm not sure if they do non o there or not..

Another thing i want to ask..Me & her both have called the immigration offices about the procedure..I'm out of Thailand right now & will be traveling back on a tourist visa..so we asked the immigration that if all the necessary documentation is complete would I still be required to exit the country? They said it can be done without the exit but any comments wether if that's the case or not ? I just want to be prepared well before time..

Thanks

I think your question is about the best place to do an extension of stay on the basis of marriage. I have no experience of Ubon immigration so do not feel able to make a recommendation.

I would, however, note that getting a one-year, multiple-entry Non O visa ob the basis of marriage is an alternative. This can be done (with slightly different requirements) in Savannakhet or Penang.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

Thanks Brit Tim...I don't think it's an extension of stay from what I've been told is that first I would be issued a non o visa for 3 months then I would have to apply for an extension of stay for 12 months..In both these cases can it be done without exiting the country or would I be required to leave & then apply ?

You would need to convert your current stay to a Non Imm O Visa.

You would have to do this in Bangkok as hardly any other offices will do this.

You have to do the extension where your are living. It sounds like you need to apply in Bangkok if that is where you are living.

You can do a change of visa status at Bangkok immigration to obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa entry based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon marriage. You can do the application at any time during the 60 day entry up to the last 15 days of of it. Your new wife will need to be with you when you apply and you will need all the same supporting documents and financial proof but if using the 400k baht in the bank option the money only has to be in the bank on the date you apply (no 2 month requirement). You will have to make two trips to immigration about 15 day apart to get the visa/entry stamps.

Then after you have the 90 day entry you can apply for an extension during the last 30 days of it.

Applying for the extension here in Ubon would be a good choice but you would need proof your are living here here to apply for it. You would not be able to apply for the visa at immigration here. If you decided to move up here your best choice would be make a trip to Savannakhet for a single entry non-o rather than 2 trips to Bangkok to do it.

Thanks for the detail info ubon Joe..could you please explain about the 400k in bank..because I was told that the money is required in the bank for 2 months for the extension of stay not for the non o itself..is it right ?

You seem to of missed what is now in bold. You just need the 400k baht to be in the bank on the date you apply.
