webfact
Thai monk murders ex-wife after seeing her on Facebook with another manImage: ThairathKHON KAEN:-- A monk in robes went to murder his ex-wife in Khon Kaen after seeing her with another man on Facebook. He waited in the shadows before picking up a scythe and slashing her to death. He then changed into lay clothes and walked away, reports Thairath.Manjakhiree district police who mounted a manhunt after being alerted to the murder found the monk in tall grass some five kilometres from the house.Suraphon Satesri, 54, or Phra (monk) Suraphon of Thepnimit temple in Phonpisai district of Nong Khai said that he killed his ex-wife in a jealous rage after she broke a vow not to hook up with another man. He had been ordained into the monkhood after they split up.Police were alerted to the house by a caller who said there was an intruder in the property and he was still there. At the two storey property they found Nit Butdabun, 39, the house owner, dead with more than ten slash wounds to her head, neck and body.Suraphon was found at 1pm with a bag containing bloodstained monks robes, a 30 cm scythe, another smaller knife and other items used by a monk.He told police that his wife had two children from a previous relationship. He had lived with her as her second husband for six years but when they split up about a year ago he decided to become a monk in Nong Khai. However, he still followed the life of his ex through posts on Facebook and said he became angry when he thought she was with another man. He said that this broke a promise they had made that they would die together and she would not have another man.He became jealous and returned to the house on Tuesday hiding out in a food preparation area behind the house until dark when he grabbed a scythe. After spying in the house for the best part of an hour he entered, he told police. His ex-wife's daughter saw him and raised the alarm but he got to Nit and slashed her to death before changing and leaving.Suraphon was charged with premeditated murder and locked up.Source: Thairath-- 2016-04-

jaltsc
"He had been ordained into the monkhood after they split up." Are there no standards left for who enters the monkhood? It appears that there are more stringent qualifications to work at a 7-eleven than there are to become a monk. prakhonchai nick
Arrested in connection with a horrible crime, Actually arrested, so not an important monk then ? Arrested so quickly? Wasn't a court order needed, thereby giving this scum a chance to escape, like so many!

thesetat2013
Excuse me but the writer of this story or the police must have been misquoted. You do not hide in waiting until it is dark to slice an ex wife and call it a jealous rage. At least they got the charges right with premeditated murder. Unlike other killers who don't even get charge for the death at all because they are rich.
user82374298374
I'm beginning to lean towards the view that perhaps Facebook really ought to be blocked in Thailand, purely in the interests of public safety. A good topic for a Master's thesis would be the annual Facebook murder tally worldwide, with breakdowns by regions and countries. dddave
Thai monks are certainly no worse than the stunning number of western clergy that rape children, then hide behind their bishop's robes.

Understood. Most monks got that in their bags. Oh my Buddha, please help us all. Somebody had taken his toy away. Hmm. Who'll be the first in pointing fingers here? You have to understand it isnt the person they give things to it is the concept of donating to humanity. If the receiver does bad things that does not reflect on the giver but the person who has done the wrong. An example id martial arts. When you face off against an opponent you bow. This is not necessarily a sign of respect for the person but for the belt he / she wears. Edited April 27, 2016 by gandalf12
cardinalblue
Does not the monkhood have any criteria or standards for acceptance? It seems low lives and losers enter monkhood to give the impression of turning their life around? Turnarounds come from within not some event... It appears that there are more stringent qualifications to work at a 7-eleven than there are to become a monk. There never were any standards to become a monk. Clearly you have missed all the high profile cases where the criminal rich enter the monkhood for a day or two to recover a bit of face? It is way harder to get a job at a 7/11. SuwadeeS
Everybody can become a monk. Do you remenber the leader of the yellow shirts Mr. Or just the new story with a zoo, just to make profit. As a matter of fact. The old spirit of Buddha has at many places disappeared. Anyway, for me, the are just normal men. Nothing else. Edited April 27, 2016 by SuwadeeS
