Question about non-immigrant extension timing

Featured Replies

I am in Thailand on a non-immigrant o, multiple entry visa. It expires on the 23rd May 2016. My current passport stamp is until 11th June 2016.

I need to return to the UK to look after a family member who will undergo surgery.

Am I correct in thinking that I can go to the UK returning to Thailand before 23rd May and immigration will stamp my passport for another 90 days. Can I then apply for a 1 year visa extension before the end of the new stamp in my passport which will then expire sometime in August.

Or.... should I get a re-entry permit to keep my current 11th June stamp and extended before the end of that stamp?

Thanks for any help.

If you enter on or before May 23rd you will get a 90 day entry and then apply for the extension of stay during the last 30 days of that entry.

No need for re-entry if you are sure to return before or on 23 May.

So out of interest I can't extend sooner as I will be past the date on the visa itself?

A visas expiration date has nothing to do with applying for an extension of stay. The last 30 days (45 at some offices) of the entry is the earliest date that immigration will accept the application.
