contract renewal when Im on holidays

Featured Replies

My 1 yr ext of stay based on employment will expire next month and we were thinking of taking a holiday in thailand around this time. Im still deciding if I will keep working in this job or move on. They want to renew the contract. Thus...

if I sign a new contract at work and proceed with the paperwork to renew my ext of stay can I do it after the expiry date of the existing visa? Or should I 100% try to get it done prior? It will obviously involve renewing the work permit.

If I take option B and dont renew but still go on holidays what do I do then? I will have to get that form off my employer to cancel the visa. I have a baby here but we are not married. I dont have 800k in my bank account in thailand

What are my options in this situation if my original visa is a non immig B I think (2 yrs ago)

thanks

You have to apply for a new extension of stay prior to the date your current one ends or you will be on overstay everyday after that.

The work permit extension would have to be done if it is expires on or before your extension extension of stay ends to apply for the new one.

You can get a single entry non-o visa with your name shown as the father on your child's birth certificate. You can get a multiple entry non-o visa in Penang if you can show 100k baht in the bank or proof of income.

You can apply for a 60 day extension at immigration to visit your child. Best option if you decide to end your employment. Apply on the date of termination shown on a letter from your employer.

If you were to legitimize your parenthood you could apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration by showing 400k baht in the bank or proof of 40k baht income.

thanks for the info.

It looks like the 60 day ext is the best option for me as my name is on the birth certificate.

In the case where I quit my job and wait for the letter from my employer is there a grace period to which I can be granted if they are late issuing the letter. ie a week or whatever? They are quite slow and unreliable...

If I get that 60 day ext does it mean that I have 60 days to find a new job. i.e. If I find a job 1 month later with new contract and they give all the paperwork can I then get the new 1 yr ext of stay right away and get the new WP?

many thanks

There is no grace period. You are on an overstay everyday dayafter your permit to stay ends. The fine is 500 baht a day.

Dependent upon the immigration office they might let you do the 60 day extension on the last day without a termination letter.

You should be able to apply for a work permit during the 60 day and even have it issued since the 60 days is an extension of your original 90 day entry from a non-b visa and then apply for a new extension. It would depend upon what the local work permit and immigration offices will do.
