A Lamphun policeman arrested for stealing dozens of motorcycles

CHIANG MAI: -- Chiang Mai police have recovered 26 stolen motorcycles after the arrest of a two-men motorcycle theft gang, including a non-commissioned police officer.

The two suspects were identified by police as Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Krisda Rodkaeo, an officer attached to Pasang district police station in Lamphun, and Mr Paiboon Thaptim, a resident of Mae Wang district of Chiang Mai.

Pol Maj-Gen Pacha Rattanaphan, commissioner of Region 5 provincial police bureau, told the media on Thursday that Krisda first stole motorcycles from Pasang district police station and sold them to Paiboon claiming that he bought the motorbikes from public auctions at cheap prices.

Paiboon then resold the motorcycles to anyone interested to buy. As more people showed interest to buy their motorcycles, Paiboon and Krisda joined hands to form a theft gang and started stealing the bikes in Mae Wang and San Patong districts, usually at flea markets.

Complaints of dozens of missing motorbikes in the two districts prompted the police to check video footages from surveillance cameras which showed the images of a man who looked like Krisda.

Police investigators then invited Krisda for interrogation and he confessed of collaborating with Paiboon in the thievery of motorbikes. Police later nabbed Paiboon and managed to recover 26 stolen bikes from the buyers.

The foolish police officer thought he could do it with out paying a percentage of the profits to his superior.

Now he will be publicly shamed and then what happens to him out of the public eye, can be left up to your imagination.

In an in-active post he needed to keep himself busy.....

But he "forgot" to grease the wheels with brown envelopes, so he got taken down.....

Will they be sacked from the police force or promoted ?

He'll get a good telling off for being caught,''Don't they reach you anything at police training, you're a disgrace to the mob force

Is it any wonder why Thais have no respect for the law and handle things with 'street justice'. The reform of the police department and education reform are the most pressing needs in Thai society.

I thought TV posters on the whole were in favour of drunk drivers etc. not getting their confiscated vehicles back! These two entrepreneurs were just translating our desires into reality.

It'd take alot of bikes to make it worth while

Just think what paying officers a salary on which they could support their families would do in conjunctions with a no tolerance policy on criminal activity would do for the country.

Would appear he got a promotion and a name obsfucation for face between the first article being Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Krisda Rodkaeo and then Pol.Sub-Lt. Kritsada Lodkaew in the second article a day later.

Never thought "two" people could qualify as a "gang". Looks to me like they are simply partners.
