Been living in Thailand for serveral years, but am new to this forum.

I'm leaving my job that I have here in Bangkok at the end of May and will then lose my Non B visa. I want to change to a multiple entry education visa to stay (as I've heard it's less of a hassle to deal with) but I've heard they are not offered at any countries in the region. So my question is, does anyone know the closest country I can get a multiple entry ED visa?

Are they offered in Australia? What about northern African countries like Morocco or Egypt? I'm assuming any country in Europe would provide one?

Your home country would be the best place to apply for the multiple entry non-ed visa.

Whether you could get one in Australia would depend upon your nationality.

Some of the other locations mentioned may only accept an application for any visa who are citizens or residents of the country where the embassy or consulate are located.

You could check the websites or contact the embassies and consulate shown here with links to them. http://www.thaiembassy.org/main/

Also the honorary consulates in Europe listed here. http://www.guidetothailand.com/thailand-travel-information/honcon-europe.php Or Africa and the middle east: http://www.guidetothailand.com/thailand-travel-information/honcon-mideast.php

Thanks for the info ubonjoe. I'm from the US, and will be going home in October, so I don't want to make a trip there now to apply for the multiple entry.

If I go for a single entry now ED visa, do you know if it's possible to switch over to a multiple entry when I'm back in October?

I assume you are going to be studying Thai.

You could enroll in a school for a 200 hour course of study that would allow you a total stay of 6 months (90 days from a single entry non-ed visa and one 90 day extension). Then enroll in a course of study that would allow you to get the multiple entry non-ed visa in the states (hours of study would be flexible and cost less).

Or you could start your studies on tourist visas until you go to the states which would be less costly than going the ED visa and extension route.

The best place in the states to get the visa would be at one of the honorary consulates, List here: http://thaiembdc.org/royal-thai-honorary-consulates-general-in-the-u-s/

Within the region you are unlikely to obtain a multi entry Ed visa. A single entry Ed visa can be obtained. with paperwork supplied by a school, from Vientiane or Penang. Remaining in country beyond the 90 days the visa allows would require extensions of stay, obtained with supportive school paperwork, from immigration.

Thanks again for the helpful answer ubonjoe. Yes, I will be studying Thai.

As for the tourist visa suggestion...I would have to leave the country twice if I wanted to go this route, yes? I could apply for 60 day tourist visa in June, then leave the country again in August and apply for another which would get me through till October. Is that right?

You could probably do it with one tourist visa and a 30 day extension of the 60 day entry from it and then a border hop for a 30 day visa exempt entry plus a 30 day extension of it.
