Government holidays

Featured Replies

Does Immigration Dept observe the MayDay holiday (substitution day is Monday, May 2)?

Look here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/881743-public-holidays-2016/

But the answer to your question, they are closed May 2nd

.....although there seems some alternative opinions....http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/913361-immigration-closed-days/

Thanks for that, I always thought that when on the Thaivisa Calendar the days are RED then everything is closed.

Thanks again, I will edit my original post

Thank you. I had not seen the other thread. I'll head out there tomorrow and let you know if it is closed.

Believe next time I will use a different color for observed days, which is what I put labor day under, and full government holidays.

But yes, immigration will be open on Monday. My May list of holidays posted in the Chiang Mai forum - May holidays

Thanks Tywais.

Maybe that thread should be moved here (Thaivisa section and pinned) so it gets more coverage then only the Chiang Mai Forum

Here is copy of what is in the topic. Pinning a topic does not help much since people do not look at them before making a post.

May 02 (Monday) - Labor day. Banks closed, except for satellite branches such as at malls, but government offices open. Some business may be closed.

May 5th and 6th (Thursday and Friday) - Coronation day plus special holiday to allow for long weekend. Banks closed except satellite branches, Government offices and schools closed. Bars open. smile.png

May 9th (Monday) - Royal Ploughing Ceremony. Banks open. Schools closed. Not certain about government offices such as immigration, this is one holiday that I find confusing regarding governments. Some Thai embassies/consulates will be closed.

May 20th (Friday) - Visakha Bucha Day. Banks closed, government offices and schools closed and Embassies/Consulates closed. This is a dry day, no alcohol allowed to be sold.
