My bike is 14, no problem to get 3rd class.

As far as I know the 7 years rule is valid for 1st class only.

But no damage, theft or fire cover. Basically, your self insuring your own bike for that coverage.

Thanks for replying Gents

Were talking about classic bikes.

14 years is hardly a classic.

The cost of tax and basic gov. insurance on a bike up to 125cc is about 420 baht. However, if it has not been taxed for a while then you have to pay the back duty owed as well. Also if not taxed for more than 3 years (afaik) then you lose the plate and registration of the bike and have to start again.

Umm, if its a case of a mere 420 Baht then I suggest you sort it eh lol.

It is 5 years and nothing like start again, your green book and plate become invalid.

It means you actually forfait the bike.

That's a bit scary! My Harley has been sitting in my father in laws front room for almost 4 years now with no tax/insurance!! :o

My wife just called up the transport folks and this was the info she got:

"If 3 years plus you have to pay "Pasi Ra ngub" 572 THB and return the plate number and also paid those 3 years that you missed

Next step is register again with new plate 315 B"

Edit - that was info she got from a Thai forum, not the official transport department.

I have a bike for which the tax hasn't been paid in 18 years now.

Went to the DLT, couldn't do anything for me, even tried offering them some money, nothing worked.

I had AA check the premium for my 2015 Versys 650 it was a shocking 17000 Baht for a bike that's worth just 230k Baht. I asked about just fire theft etc and they said no only first class.
