Marine Department urgently dredges canal in Buriram

BURIRAM, 2 May 2016, (NNT) - The Marine Department has deployed its officials and heavy machinery to dredge a canal in Satuek district of Buriram province.

The project was initiated after local officials received complaints from residents in the area about the waterway being too shallow to hold any significant amount of water. The department quickly dispatched its units to dredge sediment and sand from the bottom of the canal.

Authorities said that the 120-day project will dredge a two-kilometer long waterway with a depth of two meters. Afterwards, the canal will be able to store approximately 100,000 cubic meters of water that can be used for domestic consumption and agriculture, effectively easing drought in the area. Agriculture in Satuek district consists of crop plantations and fish farming.

Yawn.......Reaction not pro-action....

Yes durn it. The kind of thing the local Amphur would have known about and should have got onto months ago so it was AOK for now.

Preventative maintenance: Unfortunately a scarce local commodity.

There is a department that looks after the waterways so why are they not conducting regular checks to establish the state and maintenance requirements. Tey should not be waiting for the locals to tell them
