Villagers Protest the Building of a Factory in Their Village

CityNews – Around 100 people joined to protest against the Siamphan Enterprise Public Company in Nam Phrae on May 1, preventing the work vehicles, such as dumpsters, to enter the village.

The Siamphan Enterprise Public Company has recently began building an asphalt concrete factory in the local area, with many trucks moving through the village every day carrying the materials and machines used to build the factory.

Local residents began to protest after traffic problems began to build up in the village every day, and disturbed villagers with the noise of large truck engines every day.

Yea! Yesterday we could read that Thai workers was complained that there are no jobs and the jobs that are around has to low salaries... today we read that a company produces more jobs and the people don't want them.

The villagers also decided to protest as they had not been asked their opinion in regards to building the factory in their village, and that on further investigation found that the factory was yet to be licensed.

Let's see if the military intercedes on behalf of the company to protect its operation or enforces the law for review and public participation in the license process. Its record just far has been to support commercial enterprise by force.

The trucks here are a real disturbance and their ignorant drivers never turn off the engines, even when having lunch. Disgusting.

I wouldn't want a factory of any sort put up near my home.

In Australia we have 'zoning' and more than likely this couldn't happen.

Without further information I am on the villager's side.

If they can sleep through roosters, barking dogs racing motorcycles and blaring loud speakers a few trucks should not bother them.

Seems they are not protesting about the factory per se, but about the lack of consultation and process in establishing it.

What jobs for the villagers? Truck drivers and plant staff will come from elsewhere in Thailand, laborers will come from Cambodia. Local Thai's will eat dust and face road dangers from an unlicensed operation.

One just can't work out how well planned this has been thought out because the article is light on detail , is the factory next door to the post office and local watering hole or is it 10 clicks out of town ,will this traffic stop after the building is erected , if it is in town the villagers would have had a meeting and passed the project , if well outside of town, the villagers still would have been told, but probably didn't realize the noise traffic would make, then build a sound wall to stop the traffic noise..............................................
