Hi

I am coming to Thailand at the end of June,my wife and I intend to stay until April of next year.

I don't think the new METV will give us enough time.we are both over 50 so retirement visas are an option

My question is as I can prove an income of over 1M Baht per annum can my wife be included as a dependent, or will we have to put the 800.000 in the bank for her to get a separate visa

Any help greatly appreciated.

There is no "retirement visa " but you could consider an O/A visa which would be available from the Thia Embassy of your home country.

You could apply for a one extension of stay based upon retirement at immigration here if you can prove 65k baht income by way of a income letter from the Irish embassy ( https://www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/thailand/ ), Your wife could then get an extension as your dependent with no financial proof needed.

You both will require single non-o visas to apply for the extensions. You should contact the Thai consulate in Dublin about getting the visas. http://www.thaiconsulateireland.com/ You will need to show your financial proof to get the visa. If you cannot get the visa I suggest you get single entry tourist visas and then after arriving and getting the income letter make a trip to Vientiane Laos or Penang Malaysia to get them.

It would be possible for you to do a change of visa status at immigration to obtain a non immigrant visa entry but your wife would still have to leave the country to get hers since they will not do them for dependents.

You could also apply a non-oa visa at the embassy in London. It would allow unlimited one year entries for a year. You wife would a get a non-o visa and then she could apply for a dependent extension. See: http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/51

I guess that is technically?

I keep reading that on this site.

But, my extension of stay has a "retirement" stamp on it.

Also, my 12 month has a "retirement" stamp on it.

What is your "12 month" ? Best you post a scan because I and perhaps many others have not seen one.

The extension stamp is marked "retirement" to indicate the reason it was given. Nowhere will you find the word "visa"

I am not saying you are wrong, but just asking.

You will have to take my word for it.

I did everything in one day in BKK.

I just got a 90 day extension on my METV that runs into July.

At the top of that stamp is the stamp NON-O-RETIREMENT.

Then, I got the 12 month stamp that takes me until July 2017.

Across that with what appears to be a seperate stamp is the word RETIREMENT.

There may be no clear cut "RETIREMENT VISA" but they sure are making it clear what it is based upon.

It seem as as though you applied for a conversion from a tourist visa entry to a Non-"O" entry. You were not given an "extension" you were given (check the passport) a NON "O" visa which was immediately stamped "USED" and you will note the 90 day stay period which the visa provided.

You were indeed lucky if the extension of stay based on retirement was processed on the same day that the visa was issued. The cost of this process was 3900 Bht ( excluding a re-entry permit and any "agent" fees you paid)

However, all this is academic but you do not have a "retirement visa" but if you have I and many others would be pleased if you would scan and post an image of this "visa".

I contacted the Thai Consulate here in Ireland and they told me that the only pension visa that they issue is for over 65s.However they tell me that there is an over 50 OA pension visa available from the embassy in London.i don't know if that's available to Irish residents

The Irish Consulates operates under the jurisdiction of the London Thai Embassy.

There should not be a problem if you make application to London

You can apply for the OA visa at the embassy in London by post from Ireland. Info can be found here. http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/4
