Rayong tops provinces with highest income per capita

RAYONG, 3 May 2016 (NNT) – Rayong remains the province with the highest income per capita, with income at almost one million baht per person, despite signs of recession in the province's economic outlook.

The latest average income of people in Raying Province shows each individual in the province receiving a mean of 1,008,615 baht, highlighting Rayong Province as the province with highest income per capita in the Eastern region and nationwide. This data was revealed in the official meeting chaired by Rayong Vice Governor Montri Chanachaiwiboonwat at the provincial hall.

According to this meeting, Rayong's economy relies on major industries such as mining, industrial, wholesales, and retailes. However, the latest information in March 2016 has noted signs of recession in the industrial, service, and agricultural sectors due to problems in the manufacturing sector.

In regards of economic stability, Rayong Province now has minor negative inflation rate at negative 1.4 percent, while employment has expanded by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month.

It is expected the province’s economy will see a 0.1 percent expansion in this year, recovering from a 2.0 percent decline in 2015.

So what happened o Kalasin? Weren't they the top earners last month?

With an annual mean income of 1,008,615 baht that means just over 84000 a month.

There must be some big earners in Rayong to push the mean up that high, given the numbers that will be earning a lot less than that. Or don't they count in the statistical analysis?

Thai statistics are all complete BS on per capita income per province. There are millions of migrant workers in Thailand, but every one of them is regitered in their home province, not the one they work in.

When they calculate the per capita income figures, they are dividing by the number of registered citizens for the province, not the number who actually live and work there. Rayong has massive industrial complexes and huge numbers of migrant workers from all over Thailand. Maptaphut Industrial Estate is the largest in Thailand, and contains one of the largest petrochemical plants in the world. There are many other industrial estates producing electronics, computer parts, cars, etc. All of this requires hundreds of thousands of migrant workers, but none of them are registered as living there.

The average Rayong resident does not make anywhere near 84,000 baht a month. It's just that the province has a high recorded GDP because of the presence of all the factories, and a low population to divide that number by, because the migrant workers are registered in other provinces.

Similarly, many provinces have per capita incomes that are too low, because all the working age people are working in other provinces. Their labour contributes to the numbers in places like Rayong or Bangkok, but they are being counted back in their home province.

Many Politicians living there ?

Sorry, NNT, I guess there is a mistake.

More than 25 000 € / year / person ??????!!!!! More than a lot of European countries. Maybe per family of 10 persons.

Should we wait the correction from NNT before to disseminate this news?

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Why not...if one drives around Rayong, your inclined to see more BMWs, Mercs and other new vehicles than anywhere else with the exception of Bangkok, Rayong is the industrial heartland of Thailand which supports many local business' both large and small..,lets put it this way, the local gym i go to costs thb 16000 per year to join and the place is packed every night, therefore indicating there are a lot of people in the area who do have diposable cash, further one only has to look in the car park outside all new model cars, and many Beemers and Mercs, my observations maybe unscientific but certainly suggest there is money kicking around Rayong

Wanna bet these are not the stats from income tax?

Rayong has been the most affluent province in Thailand for the last 20 years regardless of the stats published by the various ministries. Many families are headed by engineers, teachers and other professionals. Moreover, the farmers tend to own large plots of lands producing the best fruit in Thailand. It's a very large province, so in addition to industry, has large undeveloped forest areas. Muang Rayong is choked with cars, but refinery pollution as well. The residents are better educated and more open to Western culture than most of Thailand.

farangs are always underestimating how much money Thais have.

I think it is a defense mechanism when faced with the realization that many Thais are going much better than they did in their home countries.

I have Thai owned compounds full of new SUV's all round me here at the beach.

super wealthy Thais here in Hua Hin.

I'll probably take a stray guess, the number of Japanese factories is also a contributing factor as they tend to pay above average for salaries as well.

No transparency in any sector. Just pick a number!

  • 1 year later...

the news is 100% true , all my friends are managers in rayong and make way more than 2 million a year and their staff thought they have salaries which maybe like 20-25k but all of the automobile and energy industries give 6-8 month bonuses that makes them easily push their annual incomes.
