Can someone run me through the extension of non o imm procedure?

Featured Replies

Coming up to the first time I have to extend my non o visa based on retirement. My next report date is 14th of this month and stay until date is 9th September this year. I believe I have to bring the equivalent of 800k THB into Thailand 2 months (or is it 3 months?) prior I was also told I could apply for extension 45 days befor my stay until date?

So for eg: for safety I want to apply for extension 30 days before my stay until date.

1) Do I need the funds in the bank 2 months prior to applying or 2 months prior to the stay until date?

2) If I apply say 30 days before my stay until date, will my extension kick in from the date it is approved or the day after my stay until date?

3) Do I just go to the bank and get my book updated and a statement the morning and rock up to immigration or do I need to make an appointment etc?

4) Anything I need to be careful about?

Any help appreciated

You are already on a 12 month extension? For you next you will need money in your bank for 3 months prior to date you apply. You can do bank letter day prior. On day you go, deposit say 100baht to show activity on the day.

You don't make appointment. Just rock up. Early as places like bkk can take some time.

The next permission of stay date will be 12 months from your current permitted of stay date.

You can apply 45 days prior at some offices. CW is one

No. I have been here nearly 2 years. I extended out my non o the extra year by leaving and re entering before the first permitted to stay date. So this is the first time I am applying for extension. I do think it's money in the bank for 2 months for the first extension.

Do I need the money in the bank 2 months before applying or 2 months before the permission to stay date?

Think you mean you had an OA visa obtained in home country. In that case first extension 2 months prior money in bank

Answer: Two months before applying since this is your first extension. Next year you will need to season it for three months before you apply for the next extension.

So if I apply a month before, technically I will need the money in the bank 3 months before my stay until date.

Yes it was the OA visa I obtained in Australia

  • If this is your first extension of stay then the funds must be in your account for at least 60 days prior to the application date. 3 months for subsequent years.

The extension will start from the end of your current stay regardless of how early you apply. 30 days early is no problem but check with your local office if you want to do it sooner.

Yes. You don't need to make an appointment.

Thanks all. Much appreciated

I also entered on an O-A visa obtained in my home country (UK) and am approaching the permitted to stay date at the end of August. I wasn't aware that you could extend it by an extra year by leaving and re-entering. Can you (or one of the forum experts) give some more details about exactly this process works?

For instance, do you just need to apply for a re-entry permit, go out and come back before the first permitted to stay date, or is there something else involved? My O-A visa was granted by reason of retirement and is a Multiple Entry visa.

Thanks.

If you exit and return immediately prior to the "enter before" date clearly marked on the visa you will be given a one year permission to stay. During this year if you wish to travel outside Thailand you will need a re-entry permit.

The important date is not your permitted to stay but the 'enter before' date printed on the visa. If you make an entry on or before the 'enter before' date you'll be granted a new 1 year permit to stay.

it really is as easy as they say mate. Go for a little trip to Vietnam or hop accross the border to Laos. When you return your one year starts again. Make sure you go and come back s few weeks before expiry just incase for some reason u get crook or stuck there. Make sure they stamp your passport with the new date though.

"For instance, do you just need to apply for a re-entry permit, "

If you have a valid, unexpired O-A visa, then you do not need a re-entry permit. The date by which it must be used is the date printed on the actual visa you got from an embassy or consulate. When you return to Thailand you will be given permission to stay for one year from the date when you cross back into Thailand.

Your visa will expire per the use by date on the visa, but you will have permission to remain in Thailand until the date on your permission given to you at the border.

Since the visa will expire soon after you return, you will then only have permission to stay IN the country. During that second year and every year after that when you get extensions of stay, you will need a re-entry permit if you want to leave Thailand and return without problem. The re-entry permit allows you to cross out and back in in lieu of your then expired visa.

Banks can, sometimes, be a problem. You may have to try several, usually the larger branch's are more helpful. If problems are encountered then ask to speak to a supervisor or manager.

Expired visa ?

Why were you asking about obtaining a 2nd years stay?

If the visa has expired (past the "enter before date" ) a second years stay is out of your reach and if you wish to stay you must apply for an extension of stay during the last 30 days of your current permission to stay.

No no no. The original visa sticker in Ur passport shows an expiry date....or enter before date. Ie one year. My bad expired poor choice of word. After the year the visa sticker itself is outdated and immigration work off the last stamp in Ur passport ie stay until date. It's confusing to govt departments who just see a one year OA visa sticker that has expired and don't understand the extension process. I had a bank tell me i would need to go to immigration and get an explanation letter as well as the name, home address and personal cell phone number of the immigration officer writing my letter. He was an unreasonable and ignorant goose and the neighbouring branch understood the process and did what I needed no problems. Typical scenario where the person didn't understand and couldn't lose face by going to ask someone so they make it as difficult as possible so you get out of their life and they can return to facebook. Looked the part...the suit, copy Hermes belt etc but no idea. Supervisor was away that day or so he said. Like I said it does cause issues

Already been covered dozens of time on here. Search.

So just to be clear (as this is my first year here and I'm not familiar with these things) can I do this at a land border crossing or do I need to fly out and come back in via an airport? And assuming it can be done at a land border, does anyone know if it is at any border crossing are are there specific ones that are either required or recommended to be used? For instance, could I do this at the Dan Sing Khon border post - as that is the nearest one to me. Finally (sorry for so many questions but I don't want to mess this up) do I need to spend any specific length of time out of Thailand or can I just cross the border, turn around and come straight back?

  • Yes you can do a border hop at land borders, but I don't know if it's possible at Dan Sing Khon. Some small crossings are for locals only.
  • You could use Ban Phu Nam Ron, Kancahnaburi or Ranong crossings.
  • You don't need to spend time out of the country, you can turn around and come straight back in.

Make sure you do the border hop on or before the 'enter before' date printed on your visa. Do not stay until the end of your current 1 year stay or you will miss out on a second year.
