Interesting to read all the typically cynical comments. based on absolutely nothing. All six involved, despite four of them being related to police, have been arrested and refused bail while evidence is gathered and the case prepared. How would they do anything different in your country? As for the police firing their guns in the air as a warning, which seems to have worked although too late to save the victim, maybe that happened as Thailand isn't the US where the police would no doubt have shot them all dead as they never appear to be skilled enough to shoot to disable. And how about the police being called and being there so quickly the assault was still taking place. Not bad at all.

The cynical comments aren't based on nothing. They are based on the fact that Thai authorities have a rich history of acting like they will proceed with a prosecution and losing momentum as soon as the outrage has died down.

Cops are taught to shoot at center mass for a number of reasons. First, it is the most likely to result in a hit. Second, you are still quite likely to die if shot in the leg due to these things called arteries that carry blood around the body (watch 'Blackhawk Down'). Third, America is the hub of lawsuits, and a dead guy can't sue.

As I said in my previous post, all firing into the air does is put more people at risk. The bullets should have been aimed at the little murderers.

How can firing in the air put more people at risk? Are they flying past on a kite.

In custody already, as should be.

RIP to the little toddler.

Still no word on actually laying charges against the speeding merc man who killed two students and still no news about charged being laid against the red bull boy.

And still no news about the community service charade of the arogant honda girl.

The chief of police and the 2IC now in charge of the first two cases for well over a month with close to no progress should be sacked on the spot and charged with dereliction of duty, at least.

Disgraceful...

Quite a bit of news about the speeding merc driver actually. He has been remanded in custody for a few weeks now and I just saw a report on Thai TV about progress on the case on Monday morning. He is likely to be charged but no idea on what kind of punishment he will receive.

Not much about the arrogant Honda girl who killed 9 people in the van though.

Relatives of police? There is no hope of justice then.

they will either boogie into Laos or enter the monk Hood!

"boogie into Laos"? Doubtful that will work, Laos doesn't take kindly to "Thai invaders" they would be quickly arrested and jailed, meanwhile the Thai embassy would be trying to get them out for weeks, after which the Lao authorities may release them but warn them not to try this crap again.

To me urgently in school from grade one and in society moral values are to be tought.

I found a nice description in the internet: "Moral values refer to a set of principles that guide an individual on how to evaluate right versus wrong. People generally apply moral values to justify decisions, intentions and actions, and it also defines the personal character of a person. An individual with high moral values typically displays characteristics of integrity, courage, respect, fairness, honesty and compassion".

If Rescpect, Fairness, Honesty and Integrity are placed higher than "saving face" then maybe this society can change.

And please start to change the contents Soaps on TV! Guns, Knives, Ghosts, Fighting..... if you watch this every day it may look "normal". Then you may think it is normal too to attack a handicpped person with swords.

My -Thai- wife says, they will stay in for 14 days...after that, other news is more important and this will slowly fade away.

They will not see jailtime, at least the ones, who are related to the coppers won't!

...I, of course, agree with her!

Well, this incident took place in Bangkok. From a cursory look around, there are high rises as far as the eye can see. There is also a little known force called gravity that tends to bring objects back to earth. The danger really depends on the angle the bullets were fired. The rifling aspect will maintain a bullet in forward flight after it passes its apex if not shot at an angle close enough to 90 degrees.

So, firing in the air puts people in nearby tall buildings at risk when bullets are on the way up, and it puts people further away at risk when bullets are on the way down.

According to Thai media 4 of the murderers have fathers who are police!! This will be like the time the 5 police were convicted of murder and STILL granted bail for their appeal!!!!sad.pngbah.gifwai.gif

A quick look at "common law". Anyone can use what ever force is neccessary to stop an attack that may cause death or serious injury either on themselves or another! Firing a shot in the air is very very dangerous, think about it! Imagine Mrs Blogs is coming out of a market 2 miles away, suddenly a bullet fired into the air from a mile away comes hurtling down at 200 miles per hour and hits her on the top of her head! She's dead! Is it just an accident or is the person who fired the shot responsible?

In the west the person who fired the shot has "a duty of care" to ensure he is aware of the path of the bullet! That is why police fire into the center of mass of a perpetrator, no bouncing bullets going god knows where! thumbsup.gifsmile.pngwai.gif

I agree with everything you said except this bit: "as they never appear to be skilled enough to shoot to disable". Police are not trained to 'shoot to disable' ... that sort of thing only happens in the movies. They are trained to shoot for body mass, not arms or legs. At least that is the case in Canada (but I presume other places as well).

That is certainly also the case in the UK.

Fire their weapons at these sick animals would have been a better decision than to fire bullets into the air that might return to earth to kill an innocent person miles away. You must be another one of those US bashers that ran to Thailand to join this forum so your voice can be heard...You get the same response here as your bewildered Thai partner gives...There is always some US jacklegged cry baby lurking.

In custody until May 14 and then what happens? They are let go with a stern warning? Useless system.

Singapore at this time of year is a bit on the hot side, but probably not as hot as Thailand and potential murder chargers pending, plus airfares are reasonable.

What an intelligent posting, where do you think the bullets go after reaching their maximum vertical trajectory-- into outer space, - nope back to good old Terra Ferma.

Didn't you know that all school kids are taught this?

The subject is called, "pon la muang" or civics. The present government installed this as part of their road map.

Or the Thai couple in Central Thailand that were caught with a tortured, 12 yr old slave girl a few years ago (heavily scared from boiling water scalding among other.)

the good thing about modern tech. is that Thai behavior, such as this gang of killers, can be easily video'd and spread online for the World to see in a matter of minutes. Thais and Thailand loses face - and they actually do something, or get seriously inconvenienced pretending to do something.

Losing face, the most powerful tool in getting Thais to do their duty.

Are you talking about human beings or animal breeds?

"I say old chap here comes one now, a Thai, see how they lose face at the slightest embarrassment" "He's not Thai he's Chinese, oh shut up, come lets follow him" "I say, your flies undone old chap" "Ha, ha you see he's run off in shame"

I don't see any actions or programs of deterence by political leaders or police which will prevent the increase in incidents of this nature, especially against foreigners.

This age group of Thais is disenchanted and disenfranchised.

They all too well know that they are also dysfunctional (on an education/skill basis) when it comes to competing for jobs within the ASEAN community.

The best vibes many of them can get are the ones out of a bottle or bag of dope shared with their friends who are in a similar marginalized position.

Some Thais at this age do rise above this but not very many.

Quite right Docno, same in UK, police are taught to shoot to stop any further danger to the public or themselves, and that tactic results in a high chance of killing the subject. People can still use weapons if shot in the arms or legs. Less lethal weapons such as tasers are now used where the risk does not justify the use of lethal force.

So, they didn't stop chopping the guy, the police shoot in the air!? It's obviously first degree murder, and why didn't the police shoot the men after a warning? They wanted to hear the lies in court later!?
