Ministry of Commerce prepares to help low-income workers

BANGKOK, 5 May 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce are searching for measures to take care of the laborers whose income is insufficient to cover expenditure.

Director-General of the Internal Trade Department Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa on Wednesday met with Director of the Center for Economic and Business Forecasting Thanawat Polvichai. They agreed that those who earn less than 15,000 a month must be assisted by the government in an effort to prevent household debt from rising.

The center’s recent survey found that product prices and the cost of living were still high.

The department will arrange “Blue Flag” product fairs to sell discounted goods and ready-to-eat food at low prices in front of factories nationwide. The price of each menu will be lower than 35 baht.

I read corruption had been eradicated and as we know it would be against the law to distort the facts.

This is the typical non-solution favored by the public sector.

They cannot possibly cover all applicable manufacturing locations nationwide. Only a small fraction of workers will benefit.

(While the private sector has already mobilized "product fairs" in every village and town; known as shops and food carts.)

I would file this under the PR Category, Meaningless Government Press Releases.

It won't lower family debt; they will just buy more beer, fags and spend it gambling.....the debt will remain as it's not in their psyche to use the extra money to pay off debt. Anyone who has lived here for a number of years knows this as they see it at first hand in related family's, yet the 'powers that be' haven't the brains to work it out !

What needs to be done is stop the rich families ripping off the poor ones by overpricing just about ever commodity in Thailand and bring prices of consumable goods down pro-rata with peoples earnings. Of course; i am merely dreaming that the rich would help out the poor by being 'fair' to them !

15,000THB p.m. is a lot more than many people in the North East of Thailand earn. My son-in-law recently took a job as a driver earning just 9,000THB p.m.! Minimum wage 300THB per day. Work for 30 days in a 30 day month 30x300 = 9,000! Are those in power out of touch or what!!!!
