PANAMA -- The health ministry in Panama has confirmed the birth of four babies with microcephaly.

Fourteen pregnant women have contracted the virus and six babies infected with Zika have developed malformations including microcephaly.

The World Health Organisation says there is strong scientific consensus that Zika causes microcephaly and “Guillain-Barre

syndrome”:http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/detail_gbs.htm, a rare neurological condition that induces paralysis.

Authorities await conclusive proof, in the meantime health officials remain vigilant.
