SAMUT PRAKAN:-- In the latest of a series of cases of animal cruelty a Thai crane operator was reported to Samut Prakan police for attacking a dog severing its front paws.

"Cola" a one year old dog was found by his owner Natnicha Phuthornthong, 32, outside her property on Thursday morning, reports Tnamcot.

One of his front paws was cut off and another was hanging by a thread. She followed the trail of blood that lead directly to a neighbour's house, that of Theprachen Srisoda,36, who works on cranes in the area.

Cola was taken to a vet's and after getting blood transfusions and being attended closely is responding well to treatment. His owner reported the matter to an animal welfare group who went with her to the local station where they were joined by Theprachen.

The owner said that it was true that four days before it was reported to her that her dog had chewed one of her neighbour's boots and a helmet. She said she paid Theprachen 1000 baht compensation and told him she had got a chain so that Cola would not do anything again to annoy him.

But the neighbour, who admitted attacking the dog, said that the animal was not chained up as promised and in the early hours of Thursday morning snuck into his property and chewed his shoes. Angry, he took a sword to the dog.

He told police he was more worried that what he did was a sin than he would go to jail for his actions.

Police charged him with offences relating to animal welfare that carry a prison sentence of up to two years and a fine of not more than 40,000 baht.

What a dead prick, don't hang up the helmet or put the boots up out of the way , should cut off something that is very dear to him , I hope Cola recovers enough to be able to walk, even if it is with a limp...............................................coffee1.gif .

If he was so worried he was commiting commiting a sin he should have taken the dog to a temple and dumped it there. Clearly the laws for keeping your pets under control are non existent and something should be done to take care of this as well as enforcing these animal cruelty laws. But, it seems that dog owners are hard to find and ownership is rarely found when the dog attacks someone or destroy someone else's property. Accountability is almost always non existent. In this dogs case, the man was lucky the owner came forward to give him money yet, failed to restrain the dog as promised. The sad thing is that this man will probably receive a harsher sentence than someone who kills another by driving dangerously and irresponsibly.

so who is the real animal

both including the irresponsible owner who would still have a living dog if he had controlled it, no excuse for chopping the dog up mind but it takes two to tango.

Cruelty is our species darkest attribute. What we do to animals is only a glimmer of what we do to each other.

You're kidding right ?

What we do to animals is FAR WORSE of what we do to each other.

A hand for a paw and a foot for the other paw. Dogs love chewing boots and shoes and its owner shares some of the blame for this horrible deed. I hope the dog is OK or is put down humanely.

Do we string people up and then beat them before stripping off their skin and cooking them alive? Because that's what people do to dogs in China. The adrenaline from the violent death is supposed to make the meat more tasty.

One of the dogs I adopted 5 years ago bit a runner. Although I care greatly about the dog, and he had been beaten badly by a farang owner previously, there was No excuse. Went to a mature, well educated vet to put him down. 'Cannot not - Can cut off one leg'. TIT.

What a nice guy you are .

The real bad animals these days have 2 legs and 2 arms .

A dog reacts to the treatment it gets . If it is treated in a good well , it will be thankful . People won't .

Dogs do not destroy the planet by irresponsably producing dangerous chemicals , toxic waste , pollution , they do not make war , they belong to this planet .

People really seem to not belong here , judged by the way they treat this fantastic ecosystem that is our only planet .

Money is the only thing people believe in , and it destroys everything if not used in the right way .

But not a lot understand this , destruction goes on until the End .

There are two sides to this story. Very, very few pet owners here are willing to engage in disciplining their dogs. So most just do as they please. Bark all night, chew up peoples possessions, roam the streets, chase bicyclists, chase motorcyclists, bite people at random, etc. They do as they want, as they are never shown any limit to their behavior. So, the owner of the pet has to take some responsibility.

Granted, no cruelty of this manner is justified over a pair of ratty boots, and what was probably a 200 baht helmet. But, he cannot be blamed entirely.

It would have been more humane to put the animal down, but that wont happen in Buddhist Thailand, they would rather have the dog dragging itself around on two legs than put it down. TIT.
