Visa from Neighboring Countries?

Featured Replies

Can you get a single entry tourist visa at a Thai consulate in one of the neighboring countries?

Yes, if you qualify for one.

Yes, if you qualify for one.

How do you qualify for one?

Which countries passport do you hold and where are you now ?

Are you posting from Chiang Mai ?

I've an EU passport. not in CM at the mo.

But you have spent time in Chiang Mai allegedly on a tourist visa.

If you have a EU passport you can get a tourist visa from any of the nearby countries or from your home country.

Yes I got my tourist visa at home, I'm just wondering If I can get another one. So they only got rid of double entry visas and "Visa Runs", is that right?

That would mean you could get single entry at home, get a 30 day extension, then get another single entry in a neighboring country with the 30 day extension which would be six months in total. Is that correct?

That is correct.

Single entry tourist visas are still available in neighbouring countries such as Laos,Cambodia etc.

Do you have to produce bank statements and employer letters like with the METV?

Do you have to produce bank statements and employer letters like with the METV?

You will have to ask wherever you intend to apply what their requirements are.

Vientiane and Penang do not ask for such details.

There are several Embassies/Consulates that don't require any supporting documents, and a few that might ask for onward flight bookings.

The recommended places to apply are Vientiane or Savannakhet, Laos or Penang, Malaysia. You may need onward flight bookings if applying in Cambodia.

As far as I know, you could also leave to a local country and come back on a visa exempt (30 day by air, or 15/30 overland depending on your own country), either of which you can also extend by 30 days. No problems with this unless you do a few back-to-back.

The OP was asking, specifically, about a tourist visa !

A visa exempt entry is not a tourist visa and was not something that was asked about.
