Provincial officials to see referendum on draft charter conducted smoothly

BANGKOK, 9 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Interior has instructed its provincial officials nationwide to follow the guidelines for a public referendum on a draft constitution and see to it that it will be conducted smoothly.

Interior Ministry permanent secretary Krissada Boonyarat said government personnel, volunteers and network members will see to it that the nationwide referendum, scheduled for August 7, 2016, will be held in accurate and transparent fashion. They will respond to the Election Commission’s advice and requests. Moreover, government officials at all levels will strictly be neutral and non-suggestive, he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Interior has helped the Election Commission (EC) with the preparing of lists of eligible voters at each polling unit.

Thus removing the EC from any involvement in the referendum short of being a publisher of the draft.

How the mighty have fallen.
