Non-O multiple entry from New York?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I am a thai PR holder, currently in new york due to birth of my son. Just inquiring if anybody has any experiences dealing with thai consulate in New york? Are they easy to deal with? I'm looking to get a non-o visa multiple entry 1 year for my son on basis of having PR holding father.

He will not have a problem getting single or multiple entry non-o visa as your dependent, He will need proof of your PR status and his birth certificate to prove your relationship.

You really do not need for him to get a multiple entry visa. A single entry would be enough and then he can get a one year extension as your dependent at immigration.

New York Consulate is very easy to deal with, since , unlike the Embassy in Washington, they have not outsourced their visa functions to a local national and all visa matters are handled by a Thai foreign service officer

Washington is such a mess since the Consular Officer has all but abdicated the operation of the Visa section to a local national , unfortunately I cannot ascertain if she is a US citizen, but ethnically she is definitely Serbian ( by her own admission)

She once denied my O-A visa because I did not submit the correct number of copies, according to her, but backed down when I presented the Consul with a screenshot of the web page that only required an original and one copy. The web site was then changed so that she would not have to make copies

New York on the other hand has gone above and beyond when it comes to issuing visa's, even holding a visa in the consulate when they realized that the Express Mail envelope would not make it to my home before my departure due to a procedural problem on their end. even was able to pick it up on the way to the airport during off hours

Hi Guys, just an update. I was able to get the non-o multi entry for my kid. The consulate was real friendly. However the officer at the visa receiving window had no clue about permanent residence status and he kept referring to it as work permit, and was asking for my bank statements lol. However once he checked with his boss, everything resolved quickly. Overall, I will give the consulate high marks for efficiency and speed of service

0P, why did you decide to go with a multiple entry instead of a single entry w/ extension at immigration?

Are you planning on trips abroad every 90 days?

Just curious.

I did it in order to match the yearly extension dates for my other dependents (wife and kid) , which falls in late november each year, so as I could extend for all of them at once and not having to go few times to Chaeng wattana (which i absolutely hate going)

One more question, once we extend the 90 days entry to 1 year, do we get the full 1 year extension ? Or do we get 9 months only (+ the 3 months of the stamp which we already used)?

You get a full 1 year from the end of the original 90 days.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember I read somewhere here that the first extension of a non immigrant visa is only 9 months from the end of 3 month entry stamp, thus reconfirming

Thanks sas_cars.
