Language School's letter at Nongkhai border

Featured Replies

I've been studying Thai writing and conversation on an ED visa for almost a year, and enjoying it very much. I will sign up for a second year soon, will apply for another ED visa at the Vientiane consulate.

A question: Does the Nongkhai border control at the Friendship Bridge require a letter from my language school to cancel my first ED visa? Or is that no longer necessary and can I leave the country without a hitch?

Many thanks in advance.

Do you actually have a valid ED "VISA" ?

If so it cannot be cancelled.

Is there any other type of ED Visa?

A non-ed visa normally only allows one 90 day entry and then you apply 90 day extensions of stay at immigration. I suspect your original non-ed visa expired some time ago.

If you had a multiple entry non-ed visa you would of been leaving every 90 days.

Nong Khai immigration no longer requires a letter from the school to cancel your extension based upon attending school.

As UbonJoe said not required and hasn't been for a longtime, I left via NK last year on a ED Visa and was not asked for a letter

Yes, I got my 90-day extensions at the Imm Dept, as per the usual procedure. So I felt no need to mention the usual obvious stuff. I will leave Thailand 2 days before my latest extension expires. My single-entry ED visa was issued on 20 May 2015.

Thanks for your good advice, Joe.
