NRSA's Wanchai: Use of Article 44 to help conflict victims is not about amnesty law

BANGKOK, 10 May 2016 (NNT) - A member of the National Reform Steering Assembly has given an assurance that the suggested use of Article 44 of the interim charter to help victims of past political conflicts, has nothing to do with an amnesty law.

NRSA member Wanchai Sornsiri, who is also a member of the committee on political affairs, said that the assembly’s suggested invocation of Article 44 is only to help promote reconciliation, as called for in the NRSA’s principles.

Mr. Wanchai said that the suggestion has already garnered a lot of support.

He insisted that the power of Article 44 will only be exercised in small cases related to political gatherings, but never in such cases as trespassing, burning down of buildings, violation of Article 112 or deaths.

Mr. Wanchai said that the NRSA will bring the issue up for discussion with the Cabinet later, while asserting that the proposal is not about passing an amnesty law.

Sounds like the are trying to get those involved in the take over of the airport off the hook. I mean it's only been 8 years ago and still little have been done on the case.

I guess blocking elections will be also considered as a "small case"......

One can understand Wanchai's principal here, fancy trying to manipulate section 44 to turn it into an amnesty for the chosen one's that are big time law breakers, you may as well give an amnesty to Khun Thaksin as well , section 44 has received international condemnation as it stands, without turning Thailand into an international joke..................................coffee1.gif ..
