NBTC to set new guidelines for distributing mobile numbers

BANGKOK, 10 May 2016 (NNT) – The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has prepared to propose guidelines for mobile number distribution proportions after already handing out numbers to twice the size of the population.

NBTC Secretary-General Thakorn Thantasith reported that at present there are 102.942 million mobile numbers in use by the country’s various mobile service providers. The NBTC distributed up to 170.635 million numbers, leaving 44.125 million numbers not passed on to the public.

All together the numbers prepared for the public cover 2.43 times the number of citizens in the Kingdom and is considered high by the NBTC. To remedy the situation, the NBTC has resolved to set new guidelines for distributing number and will require that service providers use up available numbers before requesting more.
