Converting a tourist visa to a Non B

I have been informed that if you have at least 30 days left on their tourist visa it can be changed to a Non B extension of stay without leaving the country. Is this correct? If so what is the procedure?

I have a new teacher and he has a tourist visa so we need to get a non B and work permit for him.

His employer will have to provide a stack of paper work and he will have to apply in Bangkok. The process will likely involve two visits to immigration.

Probably easier to obtain the visa (again with employer supplied paperwork) from Penang or Vientiane.

The employer is responsible for applying for the WP as I am sure you are aware.
