TRAT:-- Koh Chang police have quickly rounded up two Cambodians who they say have admitted killing a compatriot on White Sands Beach on the holiday island.

Twenty three year old Win In was stabbed to death on Thursday. His assailants disappeared into the forests of Koh Chang. Police hunted them and on Saturday they gave up, reported Thairath.

Kham Da, 25, and Lee Da, 28, were taken to the beach to reenact the crime that they admitted. Kham said that they were sitting about by the road when they saw the victim pass on a motorcycle with Kham's ex girlfriend on the back.

He said it looked like he was boasting about being with her.

So the two men followed him to a store near the White Sands beach and attacked him thereafter with a chisel causing multiple injuries. Lee held the victim down as the attack progressed. Win died later.

Reporters said that both men were smiling broadly showing no remorse during the reenactment.

They were remanded in custody at the Koh Chang station.

That's a fine female specimen in the background

Presumably NOT the girlfriend in question participating in the re-enactment

Smiling broadly. For god's sake.

Can we drop these re-enactments please?

How do they get away with the reenactments by law ? Hard to plea not guilty afterwards.

I do believe that is the exact reason!

In UK where there is a proper legal and judicial system, once someone has been arrested and charged the whole matter becomes sub judice which means that there cannot be any discussion or attempts to influence a trial result by members of the press or public. The matter would be thrown out of court due to unfair bias if anything like this happened! Reconstructions are sometimes used when the police are trying to find witnesses by jogging peoples memories, often sometime after the event and before arrests and charges have been laid. Actors or police personnel are used, never the alleged perpetrator! In the interests of justice, these charades in Thailand, and the press conferences and photo ops for police with the accused, should be outlawed to allow for fair trials without duresse!

That's the point! The Thai justice system bends over backwards (or forwards and spreads, not sure which) to avoid anything "adversarial" in the courtroom. They like the trial to rubber stamp deals that have already been done between the prosecution, defence, lawyers and police.
