Pattaya / Jomtien Triathlon May 21st 2016 - traffic....

Featured Replies

Not sure if this has been posted already - But there will be chaos from 0400 a.m to around 1200 and after on Saturday 21st.

Type in Pattaya Triathlon and you can see the maps that show the roads to avoid unless you are in the race ...I could not copy the link ?

basically all of beach road Pattaya, Bali Hai and Buddha Hill.

Jomtien Thrappaya, 2nd road and a good section of Sukh in Na Jomtien.

Where are the buses for all the chinese tourists going to park and also drop off for the boat rides ? Maybe in a Soi near you !!!

I also wonder if they have got the measurements correct in this one after the farce in BKK marathons.

p.s. - There are signs up in Thai and English - the English one says from 0600... Also you will see Thai flags every so often on the roads affected.

I'm in the "there's going to be increased traffic for this event like every other event every year" camp.

Given we know it's coming, I can choose to immerse myself in it or avoid it altogether and not think about it. I'm leaning towards the latter. Mai pen rai.

I am in the "stay home and don't move" group for that next weekend, tomorrow is shopping day just to make sure fridge is full. Assume the dark side roads will also all be blocked, as everybody will try to circle around Pattaya center over railway road.

Wake me up when its over.

Aren't all Pattaya weekends challenged these days? Or has it gotten real quiet since the last of the Spring holidays?

Yes NanLaew I'd say every Friday,Saturday and Sunday sees very bad traffic in Pattaya nowdays.

The planner geniuses have already narrowed down the 200 metre section from the dolphin roundabout to the beginning of the beach to ONE lane 2 days before the event. Mind you, that space doesn't actually get used... it's just those usual little metal barriers (with nothing behind them) that would take like 10 minutes to put on the road later on.

Who gets up before 12.00 ?

There is an "up side" to this triathlon....they have squads of cleaners sweeping up most of the sand and rubbish along the cycle route.

Maybe, if they had this event every month and on different routes the place might look a bit cleaner.....never happen.

As a back up to travel - remember you can still drive on the pavements.

Lots of the traffic cones they laid out have been knocked over or moved, so the chaos has already started.

Looking at the maps it seems Sukhumvit will be closed for the bike races ?

At Harbor now (09:00 Saturday); there seem to be an inordinate number of ambulances going by from the beach...maybe some folks not as fit as they thought they were.

I don't know what is going on but Sukhumvit Northbound is backed up from the Cartoon Network as far as I could see. Just did a U-turn before I got on Suk since even the U-turn 50 meters from my development is blocked off with white metal barriers

Don't know if it has anything to do with the Triathlon but I was annoyed that nowhere was I able to find a map of the route for the triathlon, even on their facebook page

Is it safe to go out now ?

in North Pattaya is stand still - even Soi Portisan, the bypass as well, from SCC north towards Banglamung 5km stand still at 2.30pm
