Twenty-two Thai paratroops and six black-op soldiers allegedly shifted the Thai border forward into Cambodian territory by five meters at the Choam Sangam border checkpoint in Oddar Meanchhey on Tuesday morning, accusing Cambodia of previously doing the same, according to police. A National Police report stated that the border move was led by Colonel Sorak Chai Mihoam at about 11am and the two sides, who are building offices at their respective checkpoints, halted construction as a result.

The report stated that Deputy Commander of Military Region 4 Yim Phanna met with the Thai colonel about an hour after construction was halted on both sides, with border traffic continuing as normal. Deputy Commander Yim Phanna could not be reached for comment.

Touch Ra, the chief of Khmer-Thai relations at Choam Sangam, denied the border encroachment by the Thai side. “We are building booths on both sides of the border. There is no such case that the Thai side moved the border into the Cambodian territory,” he said.
