27 senior police force generals will be retiring, according to a letter from Interior Minister Sar Kheng to Prime Minister Hun Sen. In the letter, Mr. Kheng asks for the premier’s approval to retire generals who had all reached the age of 60 – the legal age when most colonels and four-star generals are supposed to retire.

The generals retiring range from one star to four star, and include Interior Ministry spokesman Kieu Sopheak. The retirements will become official once Mr. Hun Sen signs off.

In March, Mr. Hun Sen asked King Norodom Sihamoni to officially retire 49 generals within the national police who were over the age of 60. They held positions in different units, from Interior Ministry police officers to provincial department officials.
