Airline Indemnity Form for rather then on-ward ticket

Featured Replies

Everyone,

I am going to be flying from Phnom Penh to Bangkok in the near future using Bangkok Airways. The local office told me I can sign a Bangkok Airways Indemnity Form if I don't want to purchase a on-ward ticket.

My understanding this makes me responsible for a ticket out of Thailand if Immigration refuses my entry (anything else). If I am refused entry will I be dumped back into the arrive terminal area and where can I just purchase a ticket back to Phnom Penh what about my bags? Will I be allowed back into Cambodia? Note: I have a Canadian Passport that expires in Sept and going to switch to my U.S. Passport will Cambodia accept this?

What is the process if you are refused entry by Thai immigration with a Indemnity form? Is it worth the risk of signing a Indemnity form?

One other question will a airline booking work for a on-ward ticket? Could I go to a travel agent and get a on-ward booking and will the airline and Thai immigration accept this?

Thanks

D

The chances are small that you would be denied entry unless you have done a lot of visa exempt entries previously.

If they were to deny entry you would be detained and escorted to purchase a ticket. They could force you to buy one to your home country.

No problem at immigration for doing the indemnity form.

There should be no problem swapping passports.

Everyone,

I should state that I haven't been to Thailand since 2012 2 visa exempt stamps then 45 days (don't have many visa exempt entries but have 2 tourist visas I didn't use because one death in family Mother and other I was sick with H. Pylori) and my present home has been in Cambodia for 10 years shown in my Canadian Passport by 5 1 year visas. I would purchase a 1 year Cambodia Visa or a Thai Tourist Visa but am limited by my Canadian Passport expiring in Sept. from what I understand I have to exit by air to switch from my expiring Canadian Passport to my U.S. Passport then I can get a Thai Visa exempt entry stamp and eventually fly back to Cambodia and get a Business Visa and extensions for whatever period I desire.

I plan on dropping off my expiring Canadian Passport and application at the Canadian Embassy in Bkk then flying back to Cambodia entering with U.S. Passport and have Canadian Embassy in Bkk mail my new Canadian Passport to the Consulate in Phnom Penh this will limit my time in Thailand to less then 30 days.

Thanks

D

With your history of previous exempt entries you certainly will not have a problem getting a visa exempt entry.

Also no problem to swap passports. Just leave Cambodia on your Canadian passport and enter Thailand on your US passport.

I think that your passport should be valid for six months, not sure about Thailand. I know many countries can apply that rule to enter.

No, that is not a requirement for Thai immigration.

Not correct for everybody. Those from countries that qualify for a visa exempt entry don't need six months. Those that get a VOA and who must get a visa prior to entry must have 6 months validity on entry.

Mission Accomplished. Arrived at the Airport Bangkok Airways had the Indemnity form ready. I decided to go to a Travel Agent and get a booking which work fine so didn't have to fill out the Indemnity Form. Exited using my Canadian Passport with my Cambodian Visa - Exit Stamp Cambodian Immigration. Flew to BKK. Switched to U.S. Passport and absolutely no problems. The Immigration Officer just stamped me in for 30 days didn't even look up. Presently, my Canadian Passport is at the Canadian Embassy being renewed should have soon. Might get and extension for my 30 day Visa Wavier. Thanks for your help!
