Week extension and overstay penalty

Featured Replies

I have a single entry visa that I've already extended 30 days. Can I still get an additional week extension on it? How much does it cost?

Also, what would the overstay penalty be for staying ~30 days past my visa expiration?

  • Yes you should be able to an extra 7 days to leave the country (1,900 baht).

A 30 day overstay would be 15,000 baht as long as you make it to the airport.

If you are arrested, prosecuted and deported the fine is decided by the court, and you could be banned for 5 years.

Hefty fine. Is that only for 30 days+ or if I stay less than 30 days over it's the same 15,000 baht?

Also, if I go to immigration, say three days before my visa ends, do I lose those three days? Is it 7 days from the day you went to immigration, or a seven additional days from the date your visa was set to expire?

The fine is 500 baht a day up to maximum fine of 20k baht.

The 7 days to leave would be from when your current permit to stay ends,

  • It's 500 baht for each day to a maximum of 20,000 baht (40 days).
  • They should give you 7 extra days, but as it is not an extension of stay it is possible, although unlikely, that you would only get a net 4 days.

If you want more time you could do a border hop (not all borders) and get a new 15 or 30 day visa exempt entry. You'll get 30 days if from a G7 country. The visa exempt entry could also be extended by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht.
