BANGKOK: -- Thailand’s digital TV stations were required to make their third installment fee payment yesterday in accordance with the licensing deadline. Five out of 22 digital TV stations failed to make their payment yesterday, missing the deadline.

The announcement came from the broadcasting regulator on Monday. In total, the five companies owe fees of Bt2.388 billion.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced that PPTV, One 31, GMM 25, Thairath TV and Bright TV news all missed the 4:30 pm deadline set to make the third installment payment.

“We need further explanation on this matter,” stated the NBTC. Failure to meet the payment deadline results in an additional interest payment of 7.5% per year in accordance with the broadcasting regulation.

Don't you just love a culture where everyone, from the lowly moto driver, to big mobile phone companies, can just ignore the law and nothing happens to them

If I don't pay my phone bill DTAC doesn't need an explanation, they turn off my phone

The real news is that 17 paid on time.

This is a much better percentage than I experience in my business dealing with Thai companies!

Basically, almost 25% of the companies involved didn't make any money.
