UDON THANI: -- The Udon Thani Provincial Court today issued warrant for the arrest of a former active redshirt core leader Kwanchai Praipana after he did not show up to hear the final ruling in the case which he was accused of leading a group of redshirt protesters to assault yellow shirt demonstrators at a rally in Udon Thani province in 2011.

Kwanchai was earlier sentenced to four years in prison with no suspension of prison term, and 350,000 baht fine for the charge by the Court of First Instance. But his sentence was commuted by half due to his confession to the Crime.

He was granted temporary release on bail.

He appealed the sentence.

However the Appeals Court upheld the sentence of the first court.

He again appealed to the Supreme Court.

The ruling of the Supreme Court has been reached and an appointment has been set for today to hear the final verdict read by the Udon Thani Provincial Court today.

However Kwanchai did not appear to hear the verdict.

His wife and sons appeared in the court room instead amid a number of redshirt supporters.

His wife said she could not contact her husband and was uncertain if he could attend the hearing.

As the session started, the court called his name several times if he was present.

After there was no explanation from his guarantor, the court then adjourned the next hearing of the final verdict on June 28 at 9.00 am and issued warrant for his arrest.

Onother violent red tug that should be in jail. Who will protect him now?

The same hierarchy that issued the orders, which like a good minion he followed without question, will try.

He's probably high enough up the greasy pole to be on direct payments.

I'm sure he will be there after his DVThrombosis that mutated to severe migraines and now has taken the form of painful scales erupting from the skin, as if he is a movie character in some strange silly film..

Do you take credit cards to your shell company? If you don't, you should!

The junta's promised reconciliation process gets more one-sided day by day. They should all be tested for color-blindness.

The Junta has made a rod for their own backs, by pulling on a Coup, it didn't solve anything in 06 and wont now, it doesn't matter what colour they attack, half the population are not going to be happy.

Why don't they 'take them down' (from the dock into a cell, into a waiting police wagon, onto a jail) after pronouncing sentence in Thailand as they do in normal countries? Is it a chance to give them time to dig out their hifalutin contacts, pay their bribes, make lame excuses or jump ship?

The way it is done in the West is dead easy and you always get your man in a cell!

After giving him 4 years , the court first instance halved his sentence , so they let him out on temporary release on bail security , however the appeals court appealed and won a ruling that the original verdict stand , so he appealed to the Supreme Court and this is the verdict time , however he may have just disappeared.

In 2008 he sent 700 red shirts with knives and clubs to break up a PAD protest. Some where very seriously injured ands he got sued. He got 4 years in 2011 but since he confessed it was reduced in half. So still 2 years.

Not like the peaceful people who took the country by force of arms. Of course they can never be put on trial because they granted themselves an amnesty.

Should do a typical red shirt excuse. Hide like a coward until the verdict states they won't go to jail...

Hey Jatuporn? The leader of all that is right and correct in Thailand!!!

PS - Yes yes the courts are biased!!

Did the protest leaders tell them to beat up people with knives and clubs resulting in seriously injured people?? You Thaksin lovers should accept that red shirts leaders have no problems telling their followers to beat up people and set buildings on fire. Extremely violent group. Edited by Nickymaster

Another Farang who does not understand Thainess or the reasons for it. You mentioned all most of the people who would be missing out on the gravy train if they did it like in the west. What is wrong with you? You are trying to do recommend Western ways that deprive Thai people of their culturally accepted normal income (I will not say work.)

Another peaceful, democratic thinking, victim that should be working in a government office. Who will welcome him with open arms as a brother of freedom to vote and choose who runs the country?

Innocent or guilty his expectation of a fair trial and sentence must be pretty slim. If I were in his shoes I would hear the verdict on skype from a place of safety.

Well, there you go. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Fighting fire with fire is often the more sensible alternative to being exploited and repressed all your life.

Probably dirty commies huh? Socialists ugh!

Protest at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and closures of airports[edit]

On the evening of Tuesday 25 November 2008, the PAD executed what they called "Operation Hiroshima."[58] A convoy of hundreds of armed PAD members dressed in yellow blocked the two ends of the road in front of the terminal building of Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Bangkok's main airport and an important regional hub and blockaded the main road to the airport, aiming at resisting the landing of the prime minister's flight. . PAD forces quickly overpowered hundreds of policemen armed with riot gear. PAD leaders mounted a mobile stage and proceeded to criticize the government. PAD members armed with clubs, iron bars and knives, with some wearing black balaclavas,[59] then entered the terminal, much to the surprise of the thousands of travellers inside.

Off topic and you have inserted the (highlighted) word 'armed' into the Wiki piece.

What a pity you cannot post an honest quote without distortion.

Back to my question; what does a case from 2008 have yo do with the junta? Was Kwanchai tried in a military court the last 8 years? No! This is an old case with multiple hearings and appeals in a civil court.

Kwanchai is "red" his case went in shortest time up to the supreme court,if he would be yellow it would take another 5 years for a sentence or nothing would happen.Reconcilation of the coupmakers is a bit one sided, don't you think so
