NRSA committee on mass communications uneasy about threats in online media

BANGKOK, 26 May 2016 (NNT) – A committee under the National Reform Steering Assembly is uneasy about what it claims are hidden threats in online media.

Chairman of the NRSA committee on mass communications ACM Kanit Suwannet, said today that the committee has been concerned for some time about the growing popularity of online media.

Mr. Kanit’s comment was heard during his participation in a seminar, entitled “Media in Crisis … Solutions for Thailand”.

He said that online media has been the committee’s number-one concern because people have easy and fast access to it.

Mr. Kanit added that it is also because this type of media tends to deal in concealed threats, which is why the committee has been working on an amendment to the Computer Crimes Act, which will cover online media.

The committee has also requested the stationing of police officers with specialist ability in computer technology to the Technology Crime Suppression Division. The committee is also inviting representatives of Google to a discussion on the removal of information that Thai authorities have obtained court orders to erase.

Internet bad, stupid people good, information bad, people thinking bad, freedom to information bad, firewall good, control people good.

And these donkeys think controlling the internet, information and everything else is the best way,

Take a look at South Korea, they has the fastest internet in the world by miles,,,, and not so long ago was ripped apart by war, what a accomplishment.

This backwards paranoid pitiful excuse of a government and the elite thinks it is center of the universe and has the divine right to have complete control over the rest of the country regardless of the implications and damage to the people DISGUSTING!!!

and as long as this is allowed to continue then the LOS is going to be left behind and other countries will overtake it..... DUMB AS a box of hammers...

Firewall in I'm out and I think there will be a lot more...

Thailand taking on Google? If they (Google) fold then that is the end...

We always respect human rights,

where are you junta fan boys? I'll bet you wont stay to long here once your internet is cut, P*ss weak........

I wonder how a referendum would go on the questions,

Should the government control my freedom of information YES / NO.

Dose the government have the right to filter/edit/block my FB/LINE/TWITTER/Reuters/BBC/Aljazeera/ABC,, YES/ NO.

Do I want the government to spend MILLIONS of my tax money on a firewall,, YES ? NO.

If this lot get this thing up it will not come down for several years regardless of which government is in power, information control is the golden goose for any government that wants the masses at their feet...

Where is the UN now?

Sorry mate but you are barking up the wrong tree if you even considered the UN would intervene.

The government has the right to censure what they think is detrimental to the country whether it's right or wrong. Thailand has already censured the local news agencies and removed those reporters who didn't shed Thailand in a good light by terminating their visas. This plan for more control was inevitable and will only get worse.

"online media has been the committee’s number-one concern because people have easy and fast access to it."

This infers that the ideal news media are those which are slow and difficult to access.

Interesting to watch a regressive society struggle with a progressive information world.

I was in favour of this Junta 2 years ago. I changed my mind DRAMATICALLY about a year ago (actually about 6 months in I think) and I hate the mongels now too.

All I see is Thailand being torn apart.

Controlling media and internet does not really control minds nor opinion

I feel there is a BIG change coming and it will be VIOLENT - Very VIOLENT
