Cambodia’s first industrial dairy producer started rolling out its products yesterday from its new factory in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ), giving locals their first chance to try home-grown rather than imported products. The $23 million dairy products plant aims to supply the rising demand in Cambodia and in other countries.

The plant is a joint venture between Vinamilk and BPC Trading, with the two companies forming Angkor Dairy Products Company Limited, with 49 percent of the stake held by BPC and 51 percent by Vinamilk.

The new factory covers 30,000 square meters in the PPSEZ and was built at a cost of $23 million, according to company. The factory has an annual capacity of 19 million liters of milk, 64 million cups of yogurt and 80 million cans of sweetened condensed milk per year. The first Cambodian-made milk has been named Angkormilk and will supply the local market, which has been flooded with imported milk.
