NLA committee on religious affairs to organize seminar on youth activities and Thai culture

BANGKOK, 26 May 2016 (NNT) – A committee under the National Legislative Assembly is planning to organize a seminar to discuss youth activities to conserve Thai culture.

Chairman of the NLA committee on religion, arts, culture and tourism Pol. Gen. Pichit Kuandechakup, on Wednesday joined other committee members in a press conference on the upcoming seminar, entitled “Activities of Youth and Students to Preserve Culture and Traditions of Thailand”.

At the event, the committee introduced recipients of awards that recognize their achievement in being good role models for Thai youth, while naming them exemplary young citizens in the conservation of Thai arts and culture.

Pol. Gen. Pichit said that the committee has found that more Thai youth and students have been adopting Western culture in living their lives – a social development that may lead to the regression of Thai culture.

He said that the seminar, which takes place on May 30 at the Second Parliament Building in Bangkok, is expected to encourage the target group, which includes Thai youth and students, to recognize the importance of Thailand’s culture and traditions and help conserve its important elements.

OMG!!! We wouldn't want a regression of Thai culture. That might mean people actually taking responsibility for their actions, implementing effective safety codes to prevent needless deaths, enforcing the laws fairly, not being arrested for stating incontrovertible truths, only changing governments through fair elections, teaching useful and meaningful subjects in the schools and holding educators up to high standards.

No, we would never want regression of Thai culture.

As for what the committee on religious affairs is responsible for doing... I doubt there has to be a regression of Thai culture in order for religious leaders to duplicate certain acts of the western clergy.

Youth and Thai culture have become fb, line, smartphones and laptops. Kids are not really overjoyed at khon, likay and stupid, endless lakorn promoting 'thainess' smile.png

Someone please put a good dose of salt on these parasites.

The last thing the world needs is more ridiculous and immoral 'Thai culture'.

Dear Thai Children,

The adults want you to dress up, sing songs, and memorize stuff. Humor them.

Love, PDL

Seems to be a fundamental understanding of what culture is in Thailand if people genuinely believe...

a. culture is monolithic

b. culture is sacrosanct

c. cultural change is inherently bad

d. there's Thai culture and then everybody else's culture
