November 9, 200619 yr Bt35bn plan to upgrade telecom network BANGKOK: -- The Information and Communication Technology Ministry is planning to invest Bt35 billion in an overhaul of the country's telecoms network. ICT Minister Sitthichai Pokaiyaudom said the country's telecommunications network would soon be obsolete and needed upgrading to keep pace with the private sector, which was investing in new technologies. Under the plan, the government will spend Bt20 billion developing the Thai mobile network, and another Bt15 billion improving CAT's CDMA communications link, which allows different forms of data to be transmitted through a single connection.
