The plan is:

will push her over to the mech

with gasket in hand.

Otherwise difficult to 'spane to him.

My GasGas had a similar problem. The spark plug cap wasn't making a good connection to the ht wire. I cut a bit off the wire and screwed the cap back in. It ran great after that. Worth a try maybe.

Great fun, he's getting better, even jumped 3 big bunched together branches this morning in 3rd gear - unexpectedly - shocked the hell out of him but he did good.

the Climber failed to start a while back.

So after copious kicking & pushing

left it sit and have been riding the Cota.

Anywho, after riding a loop on Cota

early this AM

went to deal with the recalcitrant and shit

found her with fuel cock on.

oh oh!

Pushed her 1/2 click to the shop.

The little old mechanic kicked her over a couple times

and decided the head needed to come off.

When he took off the exhaust pipe it was full of gasoline.

Wow.  prolly more than decilitre poured out.

Off with the head.

Looks like a top-job & con-rod/bearing is needed.

Who knew, seemed to be running fine.

Before.

The top ring when extracted & dropped though the bore

fell freely.

Presumably that not good. ha ha

 papa had a rebuild gasket kit for the

Yamaha RX-Z on hand. ++????

Gave B2K deposit and off.

Guess they needed to order piston &c.

My little buddy Gun has been riding Motocross

rather than enduro.

He is 8 y/o.

He is #1 in 50cc* 8-y/o class and

#4 in the 12-y/o class maybe 65cc.

His dad said if papa show up at house at 9AM tomorrow

can ride along to a MX completion at BKK area.

Sounds good.

* He ride Husquevarna.

Expensive.  e.g. 3000baht for a new set of clutch springs.

She running strong.

plus fluid changed and carb clean.

The bike in the photos, a 1946 AJS 348cc 16MC, was sold by auction last month for £16,100

Pulled the chain off the Climber this AM to clean in solvent and re-wax.

Using the cheap non-O-ring chain.

Melting candle-wax, cut with a little motor-oil.

Noticed the 12-tooth front sprocket was worn badly

an even one tooth broke-off.

Yikes!

Was able to find a new one in stock in town.

Sprocket & keeper B80.

Hopefully can re-fit mañana.

Your sure got your moneys worth from that old sprocket Papa 555 and a very reasonable cost of replacement.

With this small diameter sprocket,

clearance  between the keeper, bolt-head and chain is a problem.

Notice how the keeper has end is ground off for clearance,

The bolt head would really rub.

So papa got a slightly longer bolts and

broke apart an old drive-chain link to

repurpose two rollers as a stand-off/spacing sleeves.

Chain still touches the sleeve slightly but, oh well.

Changing to a 13-tooth gear would be better, mechanically,

but need than low gear-ratio up the hills.

Finding a larger rear sprocket to fit

an old Aprilia trials bike seems unlikely.

Update/ wuzhappnin.

The top-job on the Climber has added some zip to her rip.

Nice.

Riding up a steep pitch in the jungle last week,

a 2 meter wide section, paved with roots

at various angles.

Have steamed straight up the left line

numerous times.

But recent rain slipperyed them up,

& bla bla bla, f’ed-up … &

papa off and Climber on it’s right side,

rubber-side-up.

Tried lifting by the handle bar but no.

Decided to rotate the bike so rubber downhill but no.

Figured the foot peg was hung up.

Heaved and hauled on the rear wheel but stuck.

Closer inspection revealed that the kick-start-lever was deep-hooked

around a `40cm thick root and the bike was hanging there.

Like f fish on a hook.

Verfluct!

Whittling the root in half seemed the onliest possibility.

... & mosquitos were gathering.

But somehow, don’t remember exactly how,

was able to york the damn thing free,

and proceed.

A minor miracle.

I used to have a Honda SL125 enduro.  Stock gearing, little power.  When climbing steep hills, I'd get a running start and hope for the best.  I learned to judge when I wouldn't make it, and had a way of turning sideways while I had a bit of momentum, stop, let the front wheel slide downward so I was pointed downhill and ride back down.

Was riding the Climber the other day;

hit a bumpy, rooted up-pitch

and all of a sudden a big noise.

Reduced throttle and noise went away.

Opened throttle, big noise.

Broken bracket and rear exhaust system dangling.

Had to tear my old shirt into strips

to lash her up.

My mech welded her up,

no prob.

Leaving the 2 trials bike under cover at KMK

for 3 months.

Cleaned bikes and drained gas.

Sprayed some oil on the spokes &c.

Ran a bit rough at first by cleared after a few miles.

KLR650. 2 hrs on charger and and a shot of ether,

We're still getting snow here.

A lot remains at altitude 12-13,000 feel ASL.

I watch a lot of Michael Waller - a craftsman, old school talented guy who has a knack of being able to vlog.

His Norton Commando with a Yamaha XS 750 triple - shaft drive converted to chain drive motor is a highly entertaining/interesting video series if you are into mechanics and machining like wot i am....
