Story by Albert Jack

PATTAYA: -- At 11pm on May 26 the police were called to a pedestrian bridge over Sukhumvit Road, close to Pattaya Klang, after reports that a woman was threatening to jump into the road.

Forty-five year old Amara Chaicharoen was found sitting on the handrail of the bridge and in a hysterical state.

Police officers attempted to calm the woman but when it became obvious their efforts had failed, and that she was serious in her intentions, officers distracted the lady while others charged and restrained her.

These credit agencies are relentless in their hounding people who are late to pay. They should just take the car back and pursue her through the courts. Even a day late paying a credit card

I don't know what the rules are in Thailand, but this is what they can't do in my country.

What is not allowed?

  • abusive, offensive, obscene or discriminatory language;
  • physical force;
  • face-to-face visits if you refuse;
  • saying that not paying your debts is a criminal offence;
  • saying that your spouse, partner or other family members must pay your debt if they have no liability;
  • saying that you will be made bankrupt straight away or that your wages will be garnished (taken) when no court proceedings have started;
  • threatening to take your possessions if they are not security for the loan or when there is no court judgment;
  • threatening or harassing other people around you, such as your spouse, partner or other family member;
  • talking to your children about your debt;
  • talking about your situation to other people unless you have agreed to the contact; or
  • telling your employer about your situation unless you have agreed to it, or unless they have a court judgment for a garnishee.

Debt collectors cannot call you

  • outside of 7.30 am–9.00 pm on weekdays and 9.00 am–9.00 pm on weekends;
  • on national public holidays; or
  • more than 3 times per week or 10 times per month.

What is a rat catcher, never heard that one before? A rat catcher's job is paying her enough to get a credit card with enough credit to buy a car?

It sounds like she guaranteed (or maybe took out a loan in her name) for a loan to buy a car by a "cousin." The payments were not made and the creditors came to her for payment. Still doesn't explain how a "rat catcher" was deemed credit worthy enough for either the loan itself or signing as a guarantor.

"What is a rat catcher...?"

More than likely someone whose job it is to catch rats.

"A rat catcher's job is paying her enough to get a credit card with enough credit to buy a car?"

Considering that you don't even know what a rat catcher is that's a very odd question to ask but, 'no' is the answer to that question. Read the report and all will be revealed.

Who cares about your country, this post has nothing to do with your country.

She knows how to catch rats - go catch the one with the label 'cousin' on it.

Did she actually agree to the contract having her name on it? Dopey if she did . . .
