Marriage extension renewal 30 day period

Featured Replies

My 30 day review/renewal period for my extension based on marriage is up on Monday 30th (IO already came to check on us in the house), does the Mrs need to go with me and do I need to take anything apart from my PP and/or do I need to pay anything?

This is at Samutprakkan btw, thanks

p.s also after a home visit has been done do they do them again in the future or dont bother?

You wife does not need to be with you when you go to get the extension stamp. All that is needed is your passport and there is no fee.

They normally only do a home visit for the first extension.

On this subject can I apply for my annual marriage extension early and by how many days.

I understand I can do a 90 day report up to 7 days late without a fine and if I can do my extension renewal at the same time but 16 days before expiry that would be great.

Yes.

Extensions can be applied for up to 30 days before expiry of Permission to Stay (in some areas immigration allow up to 45 days).

The 30 day conditional approval period and one year extension will run from the expiry date of the old Permission to Stay, not the application date.

That's good to know

Thank you.

Ok so Im here now at the office and they take my passport and then come back 1 min later and say 'sorry not confirm' or something and then just give me my passport back and when I asked them what that meant they said 'maybe afternoon' and have me a card with the office number on.

What does this mean then? Its 45 mins back to where I live so should I just wait?

They are probably going to call Bangkok immigration to see if the approval has been done yet and expect that they might receive it by this afternoon (by fax or email).

Probably best to call them rather than waiting. If approved then go back tomorrow.

Go back tomorrow? But my stamp is dated for today, wont I be overstaying then?

You will not be on a overstay. The under consideration stamp allows you to stay until your extension is approved. The report date is just that it dose not mean the under consideration period ends.

It is not unusual for the approval to be done later than the report back date.

It was never approved yesterday, they took a note of my number and said they will call me today, what a crazy and disorganised system, and how can I be walking around with a stamp in my passport that is out of date??

What happens if they dont call me today? When I called them yesterday no-one answered either number....

The stamp is not out of date. The stamp states the date is when you must contact the office. It is not a expiration date.

You are not the first person that this has happened to. Some have waited weeks to get the extension stamp because of a late approval.

Ok I see, so if they call me today do I have to go and get the extension stamp or can I go another day?

If they called today you could go tomorrow. You don't have to do it immediately.

Once you know the approval is in, then go to immigration at the earliest (convenient for you) time to get the 12 month stamp.

Did not know that it can take even weeks after the report Date until the stamp is given.

This could be a problem for my next extension as I have to travel abroad in important family business 5 Days after the anticipated day of stamp. And I can't apply much earlier because the money in Bank will reach the 3 Month period just a few days before my first apply date based on 30 Day before expiry. Is there a way to travel abroad in this case?

It depends upon where you apply for the extension whether it is that late or not. Some regional headquarters process them quicker than others. If you are in the central region your application will go to division 3 in Bangkok and there is a good chance it will be late since they have many more to approve than the other divisions.

The only way you could travel after the report date would be if they did a stamp with a new report back date that you could then get a re-entry permit for.
