DM07
This is the third time in 16 years this Abbot is involved in a fraud of hundreds of millions Thai Baht. Last time a complete army battery had to be deployed to get him arrested. What a disgrace for Buddhism this person is can't be described with words, but of course I don't mean Thai fake Buddhism. Fake Thai buddism is the only kind there is in Thailand. Even the monks specialising in stuff they shouldn't be specialising in are no good at it. W With the bingo, and the pedos and the televangelist in the West one could say there is only fake Christianity in the West and with the Isis guys only fake Islam in the Middle east too. I wouldn't be too hard on the fake Buddhists at least they don't go after kids or behead people very much. They don't go after kids? You need to get out more! And for the rest of your apologistic statement: take a look at Myanmar and how "honorable" Buddhists treat the Rohinga!

Winniedapu
Defrauding pension funds and laundering through a Buddhist temple is so wrong... DSI are doing the right thing. They need to analize where all the money goes. No they're not. If they were 'doing the right thing', they'd be doing it consistently. Which is not the Thai way. FWIW, if Buddha Issara hates this guy then I think he might have some merit. If the mad monk hates him because he wants to be the star on the top of the christmas tree (and that's what Issara is all about), then I think I'd vote for the Donald first. But that's just me... nausea
I was wondering if there was a political slant to all this. From some of the posts it appears there might be. That would explain a lot.
Winniedapu
I was wondering if there was a political slant to all this. From some of the posts it appears there might be. That would explain a lot. Good thinking, I was just about to muse along the same lines but you beat me to it. Someone let out the anti-Thaksin brigade, and it's not hard to see why. Buddha Issara has fixed it so someone proposed him for the Supreme Patriarch. What the government is trying to do is clear the field. The word has been whispered by one of the right people in the right ear. I would guess either Suthep (who knows where the treason bodies are buried and who is rightly feared as a blabbermouth), or Prem. I would guess Prem - in a bid to stitch up another one of the 'Pillars' so the treason gang can influence more people. So the bubble and froth about the good Abbot can be safely ignored - it was mostly hearsay anyway (psst, a friend of a friend told me that... - that sort of prejudice-based thing), it's what the anti-Thaksin and anti-Yingluck brigade quite like to do when they can't come up with any verifiable facts. That and calling in the sock-puppets. W Edited May 28, 2016 by Winniedapu
Wilsonandson
THE AUTHORITIES have mapped out an operational plan to enforce the arrest of Phra Dhammachayo, the abbot of Dhammakaya Temple, which includes calls for the public to ask the Sangha Supreme Council to take action over the matter. There have been reports the temple has attempted to mobilise more devotees from upcountry to come to Bangkok. So police and soldiers will routinely monitor all 15 entrances around the temple and may resort to suspending food and other necessary supplies from being taken into the temple if the situation is protracted. sambum
I spend hours everyday looking through Thai media websites for news stories related to the ones featured on Thai Visa Thailand News. I enjoy finding out the latest news. Translating, looking for videos, photos, etc. I'm not the only one. This armchair media hunting or armchair detective thing is many peoples hobby these days. I try to get the latest news on Thai Visa before anyone else. Sometimes I win sometimes I lose. I enjoy playing. I have always been a news junky since a little boy. Just in case you were wondering why I post some of the stuff you see. Just sayin. Yes I know I'm sad. Still, beats stamp collecting. Your honesty is appreciated, although I sometimes disagree with your opinions!
Acharn
I dunno. I haven't followed this case closely, but this abbot has been accused of corruption and theft before and ended up winning. There are outside forces that see possibilities to profit from this (I really don't understand how). Was the possibility of a couple of clean, polite interrogators from the DSI going to the wat and politely asking to speak to the abbot ever considered? This is a man whose lawyer claims is sick. Why is it so important to force him to go to DSI headquarters? Has anyone considered talking to the doctor who is treating him? Maybe having a doctor from the Police Hospital go see him? His earlier exoneration leads me to be very skeptical of what's going on here and inclined to believe in his innocence of wrongdoing (I think the whole Dhammakaya sect thing is a gigantic scam, but that's a different matter). Acharn please stop being so naive. if you want to see the history of the abbot's crimes please read today's issue of the front page of the newspaper we cannot mention. Notice how in 1999 Thammachayo, the abbot, was indicted for refusing to return assets and land in his name to the temple but in 2006 when Thaksin was in power. the charges were all dropped on the grounds of prosecution would 'create a bigger rift in society'! And recently, ie the last 2 months the red shirt leaders one by one, have come out to defend the extremely rich abbot..
Gene1960
Thailand..., and much of the S/E Asian peninsula has always chosen to self select and hybridize their own version of Buddhism...., it's plan wrong that they claim to be Buddhist. This specific Wat and Abbot are not so poor at all. It's a week known fact that over many years many Thai monks have committed various crimes. This mob have all the appearances of a sect hiding under the robes of Mayayana Buddhism. Has his holiness the Dali Lama ever visited the region ? . I am afraid no Lama has power over any Thai Buddhist. There are a lot of difference between the branches of Buddhism and even within the Theravada tradition. I would not call a Buddhist sect a mob. Just to be even more pedantic.., my using the word 'mob' was merely a show of displeasure. I suppose like this 'sect' I'm kind of kind of selective with my Buddhism...., but its a path. Pigdog747
Does this mean the Prime minister is in name only and the Dhammakaya temple's abbot is the true leader??
