PM offers condolences to families of Chiang Rai fire victims

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 28 May 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his condolences to the families of those killed or injured by the recent dormitory fire in Chiang Rai province.

The fire incident took place recently at a girls’ dormitory of Pitakiatwittaya School in Wiang Pa Pao district of Chiang Rai province. Seventeen students, aged between 5 and 13, were reportedly killed. The blaze started while they were asleep.

The Prime Minister said he was deeply saddened by the news and offered his understanding and sympathy to families of the victims, adding that he had instructed all responsible units to increase safety standards at all schools.

He said officials must be well-prepared in order to provide an immediate response to unexpected incidents and assistance to those affected by terrible events.

He also called on administrative authorities, national security agencies, police, the military, and local officers to regularly inspect their fire suppression systems and water systems in urban areas and in community areas, making sure that these systems are ready for use in times of emergency.

Some experts believe that the brain of the Brontosaurus was so small, it took some minutes for a message to reach it's brain that it's tail had just been bitten off.

So.

How long did it take Prayuth to 'express his condolences'? A week or just several days?

I expect he's been busy...

Which he guaranteed would happen, in addition to more stringent enforcement of stronger safety standards, and free speech, right after free and democratic elections occur.

Prayut can make this message pre-recorded and played daily:

And who will ensure the ' responsible units ' will bother to do their jobs ?

IMO it's yet another example of the long arm of CORRUPTION.

Sadly he did not announce that the cause of the fire would be investigated and those responsible will face long jail terms for the failure of duty of care and negligence .

Not much chance of that if they can't even arrest a monk five minutes down the road.
